I worked at Ontario Ministry of Government Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The Ontario Government is known to be one of the best employers in the province. It fosters growth and offers plenty of opportunity for learning and professional development. It's committed to evidence based services and transparency.

    Cons

Depends on the Ministry and department that you're working for. In my experience, management has been open to growth and professional development for their staff, but I've heard the opposite from colleagues in the organization. Work can be soloed, but it seems as if the whole organization is working to foster greater collaboration.

    Advice to Management

Foster development in your staff and support movement around the organization (i.e., through secondments).

As some coaching and professional development planning is a mandatory process, its not nearly adhered to or taken seriously from Management to employee.
    Staff disengagement

    Advice to Management

Appraisal for work, when staff is disengaged motivate staff to focus on their strengths and contributions instead of focusing on repetitive work when there are many departments to share in learning and performance.
