I worked at Ontario Ministry of Safety & Correctional Services part-time

    Pros

Decent pay checks with opportunity for overtime

    Cons

Minimal support from management and senior staff. Three weeks of training “if you’re lucky” before people throw you a set of keys and tell you to do the job. Senior officers will set you up for failure, throw you under the bus to inmates, and you’re by yourself in a unit with 40 people who want to hurt or potentially kill you.

Part time staff are treated like scum, expected to drop everything and come in every day for overtime, but when there’s no shifts “you’re a casual too bad, you aren’t garunteed anything”

Staff culture is horrible. Everyone is miserable, senior staff will take longer breaks so you
Don’t get a break, make you work harder and when you ask for help making a decision they tell you “it’s your unit, figure it out”.

Leaving this career was the best decision I ever made.

    Advice to Management

Gain control of your staff culture
