    Positive Outlook

    Pros

Great Employees at the Jax location had worked with them for many of years and we relentless performers.

    Cons

New ownership made it uncomfortable to remain in current position and eventually a few left to find different employment where there wasn't so much turmoil.

    Advice to Management

Create an environment where the employee can be comfortable le and trust their employers in the fact that they are approachable and honest in their reign.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Great people at OTPP
    - Very smart leadership team
    - Tons of opportunity to shine (if you work really hard)
    - Recognition and rewards for those who earn it
    - Good salaries and bonus, great pension

    Cons

    - Turned into "big bank" culture in last few years
    - Really long hours, very high expectations of all staff
    - Too much work, not enough staff to manage work load

    Advice to Management

Acknowledging that more staff is needed to achieve desired outcomes. Having staff burn candle at both ends will burn them out and lead to higher staff turn over.

    Pros

A strong leadership team that trusts its employees to navigate through change and promotes innovation with good judgement, courage and enthusiasm.

    Cons

Pockets of misunderstanding that fear the response to external change and the ongoing need to challenge the status quo in order to stay ahead of the curve.

    Advice to Management

    Keep calm and carry on.

I worked at Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Inclusive culture, nice offices, respectable mandate, many nice people, fun United Way fundraising campaign, outstanding training programs, great pay and benefits, many examples of outstanding teamwork, above average work/life balance. Excellent focus on information security and privacy. The people who work there genuinely care about providing the best possible service and investment returns to the teachers of Ontario.

    Cons

Tendency to frown on people who challenge the status quo. Ancient technology, no mobile computing; many “lifers” have been put in leadership positions but lack professional management acumen (particularly in member services IT..), little opportunity for advancement due to bias towards long service people. Rigid organizational segregation between investments and member services prevents internal leverage of ideas and innovation. Messages / updates given to upper management are often heavily censored to avoid the appearance of issues at all costs.

    Advice to Management

Length of one’s service does not represent ability or leadership potential. Alternative ideas to the norm should be welcomed not discouraged. Everyone should have equal footing to contribute regardless of their level.

    Cons

That will be an essay. I'll leave just like that ....
