I have been working at Open Systems Technologies (Michigan) full-time

    Pros

It's a good environment where you can be casual at work and comfortable with coworkers. It's easy to voice complaints.

    Cons

You still have to deal with the frustrations of working for enterprise clients and some politics and growing pains. It's pretty conservative so you can't always try new things.

    Advice to Management

No need to post that here since I can speak to management directly

    Pros

    What they say sounds awesome.
They try to be employee first.
Good flexible hours and can work from home a lot of time.
    The Execs love their employees.

    Cons

It is much like High-school, if you are the "popular kid" you get promoted. There are far too many people with little experience and skill that climb the ranks with no real understandable reasoning why besides "they are liked"
What you do, what you accomplish, how much money you make them, all do not matter toward your advancement. They are really good at making you feel like things are good for you when you can probably find better somewhere else and have a real career.

    Advice to Management

Actually pay attention to peoples knowledge, accomplishments, and skill level when picking the people to be given more responsibilities and job titles. Over the years far too many skilled people have been left behind and it is sad. Follow your guiding principles please.

I have been working at Open Systems Technologies (Michigan) full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of free lunches/food/snacks. Happy hour in the office. Work from home more than other companies.

    Cons

Poor management, poor pay, no training. OST will put an inexperienced person on an account and bill the customer for an expert. OST was required to have a certification by a customer to do a deployment, they coaxed someone not on that customer team to receive it and then lied to the customer. General jackassery like that.

    Advice to Management

Most of the staff I've talked to are interviewing elsewhere and ready to leave. Might want to think about listening to issues from employees and fix things rather than threaten them with being fired.

I have been working at Open Systems Technologies (Michigan) full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I've worked in a variety of industries for both small and large companies and OST is hands down the best. The current President/CEO is an exceptional leader who cares an incredible amount about the state of the employees, there is ample opportunity to lead projects outside of your own immediate work sphere and lots of flexibility.

    Cons

As with most growing companies it can always be a challenge to make sure team members know where they fit in to the growth strategy.

I have been working at Open Systems Technologies (Michigan) full-time

    Pros

I've been at a few different IT companies in West Michigan (several years in industry, several years at OST), and being in a customer-support organization, it can be incredibly stressful. You're seldom thanked by the customer for the countless things that you do to keep them happy, and it's customer support, so there is work on the nights and weekends. But try being in IT anywhere and not have night and weekend work. Company really tries to balance work/life, and accommodate for the down side of IT support (mostly the off hours). Compared to other customer support-type companies, OST really tries to walk the walk.
Good flexibility on working hours and conditions.

    Cons

It's customer support-driven, so you're at the mercy of keeping the customer happy. Then again, that's life. Let me know where it's unicorns and rainbows and not "work". Salaries tend to be a little lower than what's perceived to be "market rate", but bonuses are generally achievable and make up for it.

    Advice to Management

Keep soliciting feedback from employees, and really listen to their responses.
Don't just use responses that fit in with your ideas as validation that you're doing things right, and dismissing those that don't fit your narrative.
