  • Great work life balance, training and development focused (in 9 reviews)

  • Thick layer of middle management - the company has a diamond shaped hierarchy rather than a pyramid (in 3 reviews)

I worked at Openet full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I'm struggling to think of any. Actually some of the people, some good people in there and very sociable, but sadly, that's where it ends.

    Cons

    - Change direction every 3 months
    - Executive level management chase every shiny idea and industry trend
    - No ability to execute ... they cannot focus long enough.
    - CEO is not up to it, surrounds himself with dreamers
    - Senior and executive management have been around since the early days and no fresh blood or thinking has been brought in at a level required to actually influence
    - Selling dreams and wishes though slideware
    - Constant reorgs
    - HR have no integrity

    Advice to Management

Here's a thought, when you're constantly reshuffling the org and achieving the same bad results, do you ever stop to think it might be the bad people you have at the top?

My advice is not to management but to the VC behind Openet, sack the CEO and sack the CTO.
The tech job market is strong, you will not get good talent into this company with the this regime.
To the staff left there, leave, the market for tech jobs is vibrant and rich, do yourself a favour and move on.

I worked at Openet full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good at agile. Some very talented people and all great to work with. Mix of old and new technolgies. Broad range of languages and environments. Large scale high performance systems. Good CI system.

    Cons

Good deal of legacy code but working through it slowly. Everything has to fit into a common framework which slows things down and makes adoption of new technologies more difficult. Lots of products but some of them dont appear to be selling.

    Advice to Management

Prune the codebase by removing features not needed any longer. Deprectate products that are not selling. Not big things really but would help with agility and costs. Office in city center would be great.

I have been working at Openet full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The HR department try and create a positive environment.
    Most people are generally helpful.

    Cons

They recently fired some really good people in another change of direction. These were really good people who were made redundant with minimal payments.
One day they were indispensable hardworking staff and ten days later they were cleaning out their desks.
This shows how fake and callous the management are and now lots more people are now leaving voluntarily.
Luckily the job market is good at the moment. This is not the company you want to find yourself in when there is a downturn.

    Advice to Management

Quit or sell the company. The staff don't trust you.

I have been working at Openet full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Informal and work to get the job done rather than get into formalities. Most people are great to work with.

    Cons

The office and premises are wells below SW development standards. Some places have very small desks. Hygiene is a concern with rats (yes rats) nested in the shrubbery outside. Sometimes they run across you when coming from the car park. This is serious, I don't use kitchen as a result.

    Advice to Management

Seriously, after much feedback and years this problem still exists. No advice needed, this is obvious.

I have been working at Openet full-time

    Pros

    * Intelligent, friendly, supportive, and very international people.
    * Global presence: offices in 4 different companies + relocation opportunities.
    * Emphasis on education: well established Graduate program and paid internships; involvement in various teen programmes; focus on girls in technology.
    * Every staff can make an impact here (unlike in huge global corporations): ideas are sought and recognised.
*Interesting monthly activities of a Social Club.
    *Flexibility in accommodating individual arrangements.
*Free breakfast on Wednesdays and fruits on Mondays.

    Cons

    *Niche industry
    *Rough location
*Lack of transparency and communication from top to bottom.

    Advice to Management

I would like to wish Openet to be more innovative at the Leadership level.
