I worked at Opportunity Knocks full-time

    Pros

Getting to work hands-on with cients who have developmental disabilities in a group home setting. If you get a good crew together it can be a great deal of fun. Interacting with the residents is a huge part of the job, but worth it.

    Cons

Horrible pay (not really their fault since they're state funded). Bonuses given out only to office staff. Must donate time to fundraisers or other work as they see fit. Owner micromanages all staff, forcing workers to come in during blizzards and disciplined if unable to make it despite having more than ample coverage. Management is thrown into work without training and forced to work salary rather than pay staff overtime....

    Advice to Management

Listen to the staff in regards to taking care of the residents, as they're in "the trenches" and might have some good ideas in dealing with some behaviors. Let house managers run their houses as they see fit (if reasonable) without breathing down their necks about ridiculous paperwork.

I worked at Opportunity Knocks for more than 3 years

      Pros

Normally the house managers are nice and will treat you properly.

      Cons

Management doesn't pay overtime for more than 40 hours work. Management doesn't listen to the workers. Low pay. Write you up for little things and treat you like a child not an adult. Make you use your car to transport clients without gas reimbursement. Don't let managers run the home and constantly pressuring managers.

      Advice to Management

Listen to the workers they are in the trenches with the clients.
