    Pros

    - Location
    - Technology that is used for clients
    - Focus on commerce is smart

    Cons

    - Executive management is weak
    - Needs to attend to customer satisfaction

    Advice to Management

    - Continue to hire subject matter experts to provide credibility to your brand

    Pros

Flexibility, lots of work travel (plus if you are young and single), heavy use of open source software specifically in CMS engagements (plone, alfresco, zope and php). Great place to build your chops if CMS is your thing.

    Cons

Erratic leadership, focused more on short term bottom line revenue rather than long term customer satisfaction. I encountered integrity violation while on the job when it came to dealing with customers. They do have smart, seasoned and mature leadership but they seem to be out voted by the more "dodgy" ones. The dog that barks the loudest gets the most attention syndrome was present while I worked there. Also growing within the company seemed more of a popularity contest rather than mature business execution.

    Advice to Management

Try not to be flash in the pan and repeat Sapient. Maybe focus more on true differentiation and leadership when it comes to growing employees.

    Pros

Great perks, travel, and opportunities to learn.

    Cons

Company lacks technology identity and arbitrarily imposes technology stacks and frameworks onto developers based on business relationships instead of the best tool for the job.

    Advice to Management

Given that the company operates in a technical domain, technical expertise should drive software decisions, not contracts with vendors.

    Pros

Amazing engineering people. Ahead of the curve in both complex engineering and seasoned professionals who understand how to scope, manage, and deliver.

    Cons

The org chart literally has only 1 C level person: Rob Willms CEO

Where are the other executives? What happened to the other thought leaders? Oh yeah, they left. So if you like a company where there is 1 CEO, who happens to be naked and on fire, surrounded by other executives that are pointing up to the sky saying "Hey look a butterfly!" then you will enjoy Optaros

    Advice to Management

Oh everybody knows .... it truly makes for great drama ... you can't make it up ... everybody knows what should happen, but will it happen ... that is the question.

I worked at Optaros (Less than a year)

    Pros

-Opportunity to learn and grow, especially Magento and Drupal.
    -Work on large, interesting projects.
    -Opportunity to travel.

    Cons

-Depending on the project, there is a high pressure on everyone to be ready on-time. Long working hours, depending on the project status. Expect to have lots of heated arguments.
-Some colleagues not willing to give a help when you are in need.

    Advice to Management

Don't throw new employees in the middle of a delayed project as you did with me. I was assigned 20 tasks , 1 week before I even started working there.
In my first day, I was overwhelmed. I had no knowledge about the project, about the ocentric platform and other tools used. My first thought was that I did a mistake coming here.

I have been working at Optaros full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - good benefits
    - ok salaries
    - good colleagues
    - still retains a culture where the people want to do great work and hit home runs for clients

    Cons

    - a lot of attrition at all levels
    - no retention plan, no strategy to get employees re-engaged
    - little forward planning or strategic thinking from management
    - lacks direction
    - morale is low and going lower
    - new way of doing business is alienating and kills loyalty
    - culture used to be good but disorganised mgmt is eroding what is left of culture & values

    Advice to Management

Go back to tech roots, focus on doing excellent technical implementations. Figure out how to fit in with new parent company, figure out how to sell interesting work to retain talent and keep technical credibility.

I worked at Optaros full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Smart, talented, dedicated, friendly people, free beer and occasional pizza. Services company that offers a lot of client exposure and some travel opportunities; good place to start a career.

    Cons

It feels like there is no leadership at any level, no direction, and no perspectives; most managers are completely decoupled from the people they manage, and generally fall in one of two categories: overwhelmed or clueless. The profile and sometimes the culture of the company doesn't allow passionate people to take initiatives or support their endeavors and people are often demotivated. No efforts were made to retain or replace the experienced talent that has left the company.

I worked at Optaros as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

You have an opportunity to work on e-commerce projects that run in the cloud. Friendly colleagues and a nice office space.

    Cons

No vision. No interest in the development of the employee. Any verbal promises they make about your career/growth are not honored. So if they promise you something make them put that in writing. After 2 years most of the people I've known there have left.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employee not in your pockets.

    Pros

Good technical people willing to share knowledge
Possibility to work with various pieces of technology
    Happy hours
    Good compensation & benefits overall

    Cons

    Stagnating company
Changed directions too many times. No real vision for where to go.
Poor staffing on projects (skills available vs needs) causing lots of delivery issues
Issues with staffing projection (loop: lay-offs, hiring, end loop)

    Advice to Management

Do not start a project if you don't have the right staffing
Pick a direction and turn the boat to avoid the iceberg!
