    Pros

I had interviewed for Business Intelligence Analyst Intern at Optimal. The interview was of two rounds, one was an online test and another was a face to face interview with the tech lead. Interview process was smooth and they asked me questions about basic programming and then moved on to SQL. Also was asked why I wished to be in a BI domain.
Great top level management with a vision for the future.
Want to implement best practices via technology
Lot of good projects to work on
Impact of work clearly visible on projects

Very good compensation and benefits if you get employed full time.

    Cons

If you cannot work in an agile environment, you need to ramp up.
Need to know how to multitask.

I have been working at Optimal Solutions Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I've been at Optimal for a few years and enjoy working here. There is potential to grow and expand your skill set. I came in with limited qualitative research skills, but have learned about different statistical programs via online training's and my project teams. It's also great because you can work on more than one project to hone in on where your interests lie in the research field. Additionally, Optimal offers opportunities to attend conferences and events (both company and professional events).

    Cons

I have met staff that come into a professional workplace with unrealistic expectations. Working a forty-hour work week is the standard here, but when deadlines are pending and deliverables are due, there is an expectation that an employee should stay to get the work done or prioritize over other tasks. I don't think this is unreasonable, given it is not a regular occurrence. A lot of it comes down to managing your time and workload well.

No prosThe management has superiority complexes and it shows. They try to demean you. No matter how hard you work, the management is very mean and makes you work like anything giving you very less or no credit.

    Cons

Very rude management. They treat employees like a work-horse.

    Pros

There are some really friendly people here. Many don't stay long, though. There are opportunities for getting skills, and some limited growth opportunities.

    Cons

You should ask which project you'll work on in the interview. Believe the reviews. While not all projects are as dysfunctional as the majority of Glassdoor reviews would indicate, some definitely are. Though tempting do not think "it can't be that bad, I'll be able to handle it." Unless you want to deal with a fear-inducing and passive-aggressive management strategy. Find out if the project you're being hired to work for has high turnover before taking the position. You will regret it if you don't.

    Advice to Management

HR is unhelpful. To fix your negative image, look into replacing some senior-level management.

    Pros

Decent pay and a FEW good people

The best thing about Optimal is learning how to interact with people based of their facial expressions. You bond with colleagues about how horrible the company is.

    Cons

    Everything else

A very unorganized company, very rude, high and mighty associates that don't care about anyone but themselves. You can easily get depressed here wondering what to bill to and what you're supposed to be working on when your workload is complete.

    Advice to Management

The executive department, associates included, need character building classes. Bid contracts better and maybe workers won't have to bill to contracts they're not on just to have a place to bill to. This place needs to be audited.

    Pros

Friendly and generally nice coworkers. New feeling offices, with free parking. Walking paths nearby to catch some fresh air.

    Cons

Executive management is vindictive, backstabbing, immature. The rumors are true, they will try and sabotage future opportunities for former employees despite an amicable departure and the blood, sweat, and tears on behalf of the employee to do high quality work.

They are a bush league "policy research firm" with a questionable reputation in the government.

    Advice to Management

HR cannot be trusted to advocate for employee concerns. Senior mgmt need to take a hard look at the fear culture they have cultivated and how to turn the company around and be the type of company they so desperately claim to be

    Pros

Shuttle service from Metro, 401K benefits, health insurance plans

    Cons

COO needs to stand up and take responsibility of tasks rather than complaining having too many things on plate and leaving everything to the employees.
People Culture is really bad. Nobody even smiles when you walk past the lobby or care to have a conversation.
As an intern I was assigned to work on things I din't even want to or know about with unreasonable deadlines, odd billable hours and high expectations under circumstances of poor team contribution.

    Advice to Management

Please re consider the intern program and make it better suitable to the intern's needs than the company's. IMPROVE PEOPLE CULTURE.

    Pros

Somehow, they manage to hire some good people. Some employees bond over the awfulness, like how inmates bond.

    Cons

No committment to quality. CEO and wife routinely attack employees. Work is like 22 hours/day because they bid low and understaff every project. The eery thing there is when you walk in it is silent, like drugged up robots. No one ever leaves there on good terms. You always feel like you are working with slime. Too many underhanded deals.

    Pros

They have good benefits, they hire right out of college and have a good salary, especially for entry level positions.

    Cons

This was honestly the worst place i have ever worked. People are silent, no one makes an effort to build a friendly relationship, and while everyone despises management, no one has made am effort to communicate with management about the disconnect. They expect you to be working constantly, but they rarely give you anything to work on, so you essentially make up time allotments. The software doesn't work, even though they continually sell it to their clients, and there is no learning curve. You leave with the exact skills that you came with. It's a professional waste of time.
