I worked at Optovue full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Good exposure in medical device industry.
    - Worked with cross-functional departments.
    - Gained a lot of technical knowledges and experiences.
    - Became great negotiator to solve many issues, disagreement, conflict of interest.
    - Learned a lot from cost cutting measures to products quality improvements.
    - Great co-worker, some smart people.
    - Became better communicator with different personalities/characters of people

    Cons

    - Its all start from the top. The company seems to run by 2 different groups: Operation/Finance and Engineering.
    - No team work. Everyone wants what easy and convenience for them.
    - Upper management turn over, created chaotic environment, and new policies.
    - No career advancement. They don't promote within the company, no cross departments promotion.
    - Lack of communications among departments and mgmt from top to bottom, causing confusion, project delays, "wait and see", bottle necked change process, etc.
    - Low morale became "just do it and collect pay check". No motivation after years of conflict of interest among departments.
    - Incompetence people don't know what & how to do root cause analysis, all they do is point fingers.

    Advice to Management

Please run the company by 1 CEO, not by committee of VPs and directors that do not care much about the company mission/goals/values.
They only care about their own pay checks, power, and pride!
How can you sell products of competitive price by cutting corners/cheap material that impacting the quality/performance? (They get what they pay for)

    Pros

wear a lot of hats, so you get exposure and build your own experience

    Cons

    low employee moral
management is only looking at their own paychecks
you will never see your bonus. There is no such word
no promotion, no matter how hard you work.

    Advice to Management

A lot of good, skillful people left this company because they worked really hard, but no praise or no bonus or reward from management. They just looking at their own paycheck. CEO is smart but cheap!

    I worked at Optovue full-time

    Pros

Certain teams and mid-level managers are really carrying the company, and if you are a part of that team, those managers will try to take care of you.

    Cons

Still ad hoc, and internal operation is very unorganized. The industry is over-saturated. Once you are in, don't expect a decent salary increase. And there is little to no culture.

    Advice to Management

Certain groups have extremely high turnover ratio. Take a better care of your employees. Also, have a clear and well though out strategy, that everyone can commit to.

    Pros

Freedom to do your job without micro managing. Flexible scheduling. Overall, it is fairly laid back atmosphere. I did like the co workers.

    Cons

They do not have very good management. They seem to have the same problems over and over again. They don't take advice that could help the company progress.

    Advice to Management

They need to be more pro active in fixing problems so that they do not occur over and over again.
