I have been working at Opus Bank full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great people! I have been impressed with the people I have met here. Its also an exciting time to be at Opus Bank as performance has turned around based upon Q4 earnings release. Opus is currently looking for a new CEO which I think is also exciting. Medical benefits are great (UHC) and company subsidy is very good - much better then my last location. I love the location, building, and professional atmosphere....

    Cons

None so far. Some work spaces are trade desk style (i.e open) which may not appeal to all, but I have heard that is being looked at.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you have been doing. While I am new, I know my teammates are excited by the changes being made. Love the town halls that the interim CEO hosts.

I have been working at Opus Bank full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I really enjoyed working there, and for the most part everyone was friendly once you got to talking with them.

    Cons

There is one specific person who I will not name who can be quite nasty, and will berate you in front of everyone without blinking an eye.

    Advice to Management

Stop allowing certain managers to take advantage of their position and make the employees under them feel intimidated, or inadequate.

I have been working at Opus Bank full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

+ Small enough to make an impact; big enough to have the right infrastructure and support + Additions in the past year have been thoughtful and keep the long term objective in mind; a blend of small bank and large bank executives that provide meaningful and diverse experience to the table + A perfect place for the driven individual; think of a PE firm type drive... that’s what’s needed to succeed here; think of it as...

    Cons

    - the unknown; new CEO saying the right things; recent personnel moves have been drastic but appear warranted; but this place ain’t for the faint of heart - if you are looking for a traditional bank, go to Wells Fargo or Bank of America; Opus is more PE than banking in its corporate culture

    Advice to Management

    1) 80/20 rule applies nearly everywhere; examine how your top performers (individuals and divisions) do what they do; best practices are in your own firm, 2) Continue empowering your executives; you’ve brought them on to think and decide, not to take orders and be robots. For too long this bank operated that way. It’s time to be nimble, agile and win, 3) Trust, the single most overlooked quality that any successful...

I worked at Opus Bank full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Smaller environment, greater ability to make an impact

    Cons

Complete and total incompetence at the top puts the entire bank at risk. Many examples abound unfortunately. The former CFO might as well not have shown up to work; she simply got the title for knowing the people (or person, rather). This was a C-suite executive. Lenders/underwriting experts weren't up to snuff; massive credit losses in 2016. High turnover, at least among those who are smart and have options...

Dear former SVP, Thank you for your service to Opus Bank. Opus has been through a lot of change over the past 18 months, especially at the executive level. During that time, we have on-boarded a new CFO, CHRO, and CEO, and our new General Counsel started this week. It’s ...

I have been working at Opus Bank full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Opus is a relative new bank that is niched itself with great mid market products and strategies for its clients. It has had phenomenal growth and been also to withstand market headwinds. The people that reinforce the bank stand shoulder to shoulder in working collaboratively, to take initiative, and focus on results/mission accomplishment

    Cons

The bank is scaling and moving away from start up to stabilization, so change leadership and management is a constant. It's nimble/flat organizations shift with market, so it can feel turbulent at times.

    Advice to Management

A continued focus on taking advantages of market dislocations and keep implementing strategies that emerge from think tanks, town halls, and idea incubators.

I worked at Opus Bank full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

Employees genuinely want to be there and make for a fun team environment even when it's busy, deadlines loom, and processes break down.

      Cons

Leadership lacks staying power when it comes to a company mission or long term plans and goals. Creates confusion for those trying to execute on the plan or contribute to goals.

          Pros

Cool and fast elevators Car wash inside the parking lot

          Cons

The worst place I have ever worked at, glad that I escaped... The management played extreme favoritism. During the time I was at Opus, I was reporting to someone who had no idea what my job function was and who did not even bother to learn my area of expertise. Offensive and disrespectful language was often thrown out to criticize employees, total disregard of people's emotional well being. No one in my team was...
