I have been working at Oracle full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work life balance, sometime we get free food and unlimited sick days

    Cons

Promotions and raises are pretty rare, Oracle acquires a lot of company, it doesn't seem like a united organization.

    Advice to Management

Please look into giving raises to prevent people from leaving.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Food and Drinks are available. People are generally pretty friendly and open to ideas. Most of the people you work with directly are really great. They are constantly working to improve and refine the process and quality of the product. You can speak pretty frankly and they might not do much about it but you won't be punished.

    Cons

Some of the teams who work at HQ are a huge pain. Don't get much choice on the projects you work on and the software is 15 years old at parts and a clunky monster. Lots of legacy code.

    Advice to Management

Listen more to when people don't want to be on certain projects.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The investment Oracle makes in applications makes it a great place for a software salesperson to work. Additionally, the sheer numbers of Oracle customers globally are a force to be reckoned with. There are tons of opportunities to move to different divisions and try new things.

    Cons

Oracle pays significantly less than the competition across the board. SCs are grossly underpaid and overworked, making the good ones fair game for any software company out there. The Sales Leadership and senior sales leadership are disproportionately filled with white men. There are almost no minorities or even women in Enterprise Application sales which are the highest paying sales jobs--it's almost systematically exclusionary. Additionally, Oracle policies prevent loyal salespeople from making what people brought in from the outside make, even when they have he same experience, encouraging turnover. Once you're in in sales, don't count on ever getting a raise in base, so negotiate fiercely, it will likely be your last chance.

    Advice to Management

A more diverse sales leadership structure will allow new ideas and a better culture. Punishing reps with low salaries and no raises for having Oracle on their resume seems foolish. Don't take loyalty for granted.

I worked at Oracle full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great technology. I was able to work with their Engineered Systems product line, which was great.

    Cons

Cloud focus feels like they're walking away from their existing business and customers. Many customers not ready for the Cloud, but still being forced to accept cloud credits with every deal. From what I hear, their cloud solution isn't ready for prime time.

    Advice to Management

Don't walk away from core business. Also, don't get rid of experience technologists for cheap labor.

I worked at Oracle full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Good initial compensation.
    - Benefits are confusing, but solid.
    - Customers take you seriously due to the pedigree.

    Cons

    - Everything seems to be getting worse all the time; benefit reductions, elimination of stipends, elimination of overtime.
    - Push you to sell extraordinarily immature cloud products.
    - Falling further and further behind competitors.
    - Because Oracle uses Oracle ERP products, tracking time or managing expenses is a massive pain. Like it can take hours to fill out an expense report.

    Advice to Management

Oracle recruited me HARD from a job at which I was very happy, then laid me off nine months later because the product I supported has zero momentum in a crowded market. I was honestly involved in three sales cycles that entire time. What a joke.

If the plan is to do to Oracle what Mark Hurd did to HP - offshore the entire company to strip-mine it for profits - just do it in a hurry. Every day something gets taken away at Oracle.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Everything depends on what org you're in, and what city you're in. My org, we were part of an acquired company so the people are great, the legacy management is still fighting for us. But there is only so much they can do. We've got free drinks in the kitchen. Access to a lot of training materials if you can make sense of the system to find what you want. Great benefits.

    Cons

NO RAISES, promotions without a pay increase, you need a team to fight for office outings and parties and fun if that's something you want. It's a self-serve tech company, so they expect you to solve your computer issues first, before calling IT, be prepared to struggle with getting your Outlook issues solved by reading an outdated internal web page, or by googling your issue on your own.

    Advice to Management

If you give people a promotion, give them more money. If you can't give your people more money, find another way to compensate them so that you don't lose them. And don't sit in meetings and on conference calls saying your people are #1 and they come first and they are the heart of your business when you're not giving anyone a raise.
