I worked at Oracle full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits package and opportunities for advancement.

    Cons

The culture is revenue first, everything else last. Products are pushed based on management direction and commission levels with little concern as to whether it is the right solution for the customer.

Getting a raise once hired is really hard unless you under-valued yourself to begin with. My last promotion had no raise attached, only a bonus structure change. Very little of the bonus percentage is based on individual merit.

    Advice to Management

Customers that trust a vendor will buy more and not worry as much about vendor lock in. Products should be thoroughly tested before sold. Discontinuing popular products alienates customers.

Tie bonuses for consultants to customer satisfaction and hours billed rather than overall numbers for a group that contains disparate sub-groups.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits, many career opportunities

    Cons

Massive company and clunky self service portals

    Advice to Management

Actions speak louder and are remembered more than words. Look for the leaders in the company rather than the administrators. Leaders inspire with their actions. Administrators rule by metrics (and not always using the correct metrics).

I have been working at Oracle full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Large company that will have all of the basic benefits - espp, 401k, vacation, etc.

    Cons

Every process is super tedious and non-intuitive (HR, Expense Reporting, etc). They are all in legacy Oracle applications, so it feels like 1992 with super clunky, old applications. Makes it hard to be proud of the product, when every time you have to interact with it, it is so painful. They also do not care about their employees - it very much feels like each employee is an (easily replaceable) line on a spreadsheet.

    Advice to Management

bring in a team to evaluate every process that you require for your employees. the self-service model is brutal with non-intuitive processes in place.
