    Pros

Opportunities to learn about enterprise software development in a very complex ecosystem requiring coordination across many different product engineering teams

    Cons

Difficult to find career growth and move to other positions within the company

    Advice to Management

Allow transition to other product teams for employee growth

    Pros

Laser focused on bottom line. It helps the company remain strong and vital. They generally make sound business decisions. This is refreshing if you've been with an org that's bad at the business side

    Cons

Laser focused on bottom line. People are a commodity. They are trying to get better at career development, but it's not inherent to their DNA

    Pros

Ruthless focus on the bottom line. They do a lot of right things to keep the company healthy and growing.

    Cons

They seem to want recent college grads mostly, and from a limited set of schools.

I worked at Oracle full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits for the entire family.

Good pay across all job roles in product, sales, and services.

Lots of acquisitions and other product families to move internally if your division is failing.

    Cons

Poor mid-level executive leadership. CGBU is poorly run with cuts over many quarters.

    Product investments are continually reduced.

Not a good company for entrepreneurs.

    Advice to Management

Oracle is great at buying companies but awful at keeping talent for organic growth.

    Some managers can be unsupportive
A company that is stagnating at best

I worked at Oracle (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Participate in a global large company.

    Cons

Oracle employés many H-1B Visa mid-level staff. This allows for lower pay and more "submissive" employees. Few US-citizens left. In my organization, there were only 2 non H-1B employees. Also, adversarial management style from top down.

    Advice to Management

Too many management levels. Too much adversarial culture. More management by consensus as very talented/knowledgeable people are stifled.

I worked at Oracle (More than 10 years)

    Pros

About the best thing you can say for Oracle is that it's a big company with deep pockets. It will definitely be around in 10 years and it's throwing a ton of money at being successful in the Cloud. The work environment is very collegial. I'd say it's a good place if you're a Sr. Director or above.

    Cons

There are alot of cons. Primarily, it's a top down organization with SVPs making the most minute, and often poor, decisions on product features and direction. It's first and foremost an engineering company, as opposed to a market-driven firm, which is a double-edged sword since there are many "boil-the-ocean" projects with are un-sellable and un-implementable. Fusion Apps, despite what they say, has been an egregious management failure (if it was so great, why did Oracle purchase RightNow, Taleo, and Netsuite? - and why does Oracle trail Salesforce and Workday so badly?). Many of the solutions require other Oracle products, which prevents individual groups from achieving their own optimal products (e.g., groups are required to use Oracle's IdM and OBIEE product - which are disasters).

    Advice to Management

Management doesn't listen to advice, that's the problem.

I worked at Oracle full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of international opportunity to acquire new skills in public speaking, sales enablement and dealing directly with enterprise customers. Great work-life balance.

    Cons

A reorg every 4 months, constant layoffs due to acquisitions makes for a very tense working environment amongst peers. Leadership at VP and Dir level is always in flux. If you are at a Manager level, your could be reorg'd at any minute or workload gets decreased or devalued. This makes it difficult to feel stable, mentally or financially.

    Advice to Management

Keep managers in the loop by having more transparency. Do not dismiss the work being done at the manager level. Every cog in the wheel is important and has its place.
