I worked at Oracle full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. Good company to work for as long as you can be supported by the revenue brought in by your organization.

    Cons

Manage business by the numbers and very little room for advancement unless you are in marketing. Company is all about revenue and meeting the numbers.

    Advice to Management

Compete against other companies more aggressively and stop worrying about only making margins. Keep the customers you have and don't let them go to competitors.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    flexible hours/work from home schedule
    nice collaborative atmosphere
    free drinks
    affordable Cafe food
nice fitness center, with onsite trainer
    access to lots of training
    benefits are competitive and comparable.
    starting pay is decent
travel accommodations are better than others, with the ability to pick your own flights, hotel and rental cars
    corporate cell phone plans available
self service environment makes things quick and easy

    Cons

you will read this a lot. But pay raises stink. If you get one, it's minuscule. At most companies, you can negotiate a salary bump based on performance. At Oracle, good performance is only enough to keep your job. If you interview somewhere else and get an offer, don't expect Oracle to match it. They will wish you luck, and send you on your way. Doesn't matter how much they invested in your training, or how much it will cost them to lose you. I have seen them let very talented individuals walk away for a couple thousand dollars a year. In my sector, there is no bonus structure. What I'm making now, I will most likely be making in 5 years.

    Advice to Management

Allow for quicker advancement, and salary increases. Invest more in your people, and your people will invest more in you. We don't all want to be millionaires. But a steady increase in pay for hardworking employees would be nice.

    Pros

Great learning, great people, great environment.

    Cons

No raises, promotions with no pay, cookie cutter management who have to do what they are told from the top / no real "management" latitude.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Industry leader, very business oriented, initial pay is competitive, stock pays good dividend and is a fair performer

    Cons

Raises and stock distributions are almost unheard of, car allowance gone, bonus mostly deferred to year end, bonus not paid what it should be

    Advice to Management

Give raises for performance, give stock for performance, pay bonuses quarterly, not yearly.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Oracle is clearly an industry leader in Database, system hardware, and is climbing into Cloud services.

Company is well-run, from a business (financial) point of view.

Base salaries seem to be OK (though not outstanding) for the area.

Oracle now has "unlimited" vacation policy -- what days you take off (as a salaried employee) are strictly between you and your manager, as long as you are getting your job done.

    Cons

Management is VERY top-down. It's a "Mother, May I?" culture -- you even have to get permission to create an internal email list. When management makes decisions, they are passed top-down and are not to be questioned.

In most of its divisions (business units), Oracle will *only* provide Windows or Linux PCs for employees, even if that is not the best tool for the job. And current-model laptops & desktops are not on the procurement list; even engineers are relegated to using "last year's model" systems. Macs are acceptable to use, but only if purchased out of the employee's own personal pocket (with after-tax $$).

Cash bonuses are given in certain business unit and are mostly $0 elsewhere in the company.

Stock options/grants have been OK, but have declined in the last year.

Oracle now has "unlimited" vacation policy -- which in practice means that there is no guarantee of any particular # of vacation days, and you don't accrue unused vacation (so are not paid for unused vacation days when/if you depart Oracle). Not a big deal, but something to be aware of.

    Advice to Management

    (1) Support employees' work by getting them the tools that they need to do the best job. If certain tools are provided in one business unit, make them available across the company for similar jobs.
    (2) If BU management has failures, withhold that management's bonuses but don't penalize high-performing employees under them for their management's mistakes (e.g.by withholding everyone's bonuses under those managers).
