I have been working at Oracle full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Oracle culture promotes flexibility and a great work-life balance. There is decent stability - there are occasional minor layoffs within BUs, but not massive company-wide layoffs like other silicon-valley companies.
It is a big company with a variety of products, and internal transfers are encouraged. So there is the possibility of working on different products without having to switch jobs. In my 6 years at Oracle I have worked on two (entirely different) products already.

    Cons

It is a big company with tedious and bureaucratic processes that can slow you down frequently.
Open-source is not embraced, which imposes unnecessary restrictions on technology choices. One has to go through a painful third-party approval process in order to use open-source technologies.
Salaries are lower than silicon-valley standards, with little or no bonuses. This frequently causes attrition and makes hiring in the bay area harder.

    Advice to Management

Please pay your employees better - particularly the ones in silicon valley.

I worked at Oracle full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Work environment, benefits and co-workers/teams

    Cons

Leadership lacking in actual product knowledge

    Advice to Management

Communicate more with those who use the products on a daily basis.

I worked at Oracle full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Worked with some great teams.

    Cons

Also worked with some very harried and frustrated teams - on the same project as the great teams. The cause of frustration was the fanciful idea that everything could be done almost in parallel. When that didn't work, threw MORE resources at it. Sigh. The frustrated teams very much wanted to be productive.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Above average salaries and great benefits.

    Cons

I found that positions seem to be filled with people that are friends/favors rather than an employee skilled and capable. A common practice in many of the teams is to focus on nice wrapping paper and deliver on time whether it works or not. Thought process it's delivered now we make it work. Yearly reorgs almost always results in starting projects from scratch with new management direction resulting in reinventing the wheel.

    Advice to Management

When your moved into a management position in a field where you are unskilled and have no experience in don't build your team with the same. Keep or recruit sr level members and look to them for advise and direction.
