      Pros

I loved my time with my students. I had a lot of freedom to find my own tutoring style and discover what was most effective for me.

      Cons

I wish there were more extensive training, better pay, and more upward mobility.

      Pros

There are many good students here, earnestly trying to learn and advance in life.

      Cons

Management is typically pursuing their own goals, not necessarily trying to support the faculty or students.

It has been an entrepreneurial experience. But OCC has some system issues that impact opportunities.

      Pros

It’s a great place to help communities and marginalized people. If you are willing to work hard, it will be rewarding with opportunities for professional development like internal programs and lots of funding for professional conferences travel and learning. You may even design your own new college program if you are politically savvy and work hard. Pro tips: hire into the highest title and pay when you get in. Don’t stop working hard, get involved in governance, be kind to everyone. Remember to have fun and be fun.

      Cons

The employee culture is tough throughout with pockets of super nice people. There are systems that are antiquated and people who are allowed to leave things as they are by administrators. There are ZERO promotional opportunities unless you are liked by the right people or know someone internally. HR systems are really sad and not audited as much as they should be, specially recruiting. Nepotism is everywhere even though they have a policy in place. There are unfortunate bias in hiring and how people are treated within teams, even the ones that “champion” fairness. It’s a frustrating place to work. But if you are willing to put your head down and not get involved, then it won’t be so emotionally hard or draining.

College looks after faculty, but not all employees

      Pros

      Great vacation and sick leave

      Cons

College looks after faculty, but not classified employees. Was asked to do far above and beyond my job description for no extra pay or even recognition. Some employees are given exceptional treatment and are able to break the contract and other office practices, but other employees are chastised and punished for doing things that are in their job description. Extremely political and at times toxic work environments.
