I worked at Orange Coast College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very low stress. People are very down to Earth, and people are extremely open about their worldviews. District IT staff is amazing!

    Cons

No benefits for doing exceptional work. No motivation to due above and beyond. And when you do it might ruffle a couple of coworkers. People are afraid to take chances that might better assist the organization or can assist students.

    Advice to Management

Encourage people within the organization in order to make the college a better place. Build up the unique staff that you have invested in. Lead by example and have clear and concise goals in others. Hold them to the standards you hold yourself. Provide them with the resources they need to succeed and invest in them as much as they have invested in you.

I worked at Orange Coast College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked as a student assistant at the Success Center tutoring math levels from College Algebra to Multi-variable Calculus. Some Pros are:

    - Getting help from more experienced tutors helped me on my classes
    - Getting to know other students
    - An hourly bump after Tutoring class is completed.
    - Schedule is flexible with my college classes
    - My coordinator (Debbie Raskin) was great!

    Cons

    - Since OCC has cut down on budget, the Tutoring center now closes at 7pm. That means that students that are taking a high load of classes in the morning and evenings might find it difficult to schedule desired weekly hours. I used to have some days work from 7 to 9:30. It was great!
