I have been working at Orange County School District full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Cons

Too focused on data and busywork

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Orange County School District full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I get paid every 2 weeks

    Cons

Bureaucratic to the point of paralysis.
All positions are underpaid and therefore OCPS does not attract competent employees for the most part.
Pay does not come close to market value.
The best paid people are consultants and vendors.
OCPS can't negotiate it's way out of a wet paper bag.

    Advice to Management

Higher a business practice improvement company to completely overhaul our thought process and operations before vouchers eat us alive.

    Positive Outlook

    Pros

Friendly staff; some teachers are dedicated but minimalized skills can be used due to test taking strategies enforced upon them.

    Cons

Some schools are aged; in dire need of new schools...obviously cost is a major factor.

    Advice to Management

Some students have no respect for the Laptops loaned to them. It's shameful to see the lack of care for technology.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Orange County School District full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Depends on the school you work at. The district does not care about teachers. Amount of paid leave and overall time off is great!

    Cons

Working environment can vary from year to year, lots of turn over.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to provide value to teachers at your school outside of salary (which is controlled by the district)

    Pros

I have only been working here for a few months, but I have been satisfied by the support and atmosphere at my school. Admin works with teachers to support us with all the crazy new laws and requirements being passed by the state. It seems like several schools are having a new building under construction.

    Cons

The central office is severely understaffed. If you need anything from someone downtown, you have to go in person or else you have to wait several months for them to process your paperwork.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people to work at central office and give more support to your principals. I don't know about other schools, but our students need much more access to computers.

  7. "Quantity over quality"

    Pros

    - Good balance between work & home
    - Wide variety of tasks and challenges
    - Good benefits package
    - Changing work locations is possible without excessive red tape

    Cons

    - Disorganization at the management level of IT
    - Time with the organization valued more than ability and aptitude to do the job; quantity over quality
    - Pay compared to private sector
    - Length of time it takes to get almost anything done once it goes beyond your coworkers and up to the district level

    Advice to Management

Recognize and reward techs who perform their jobs well. Solicit feedback from front-line support people before implementing major projects. Standardize procedures and software across sites to better support them. Create and adhere to a baseline of knowledge and skills for people in the tech support position to improve the quality of service across the board.

    Pros

Good place to work yet no job security for low man on the list last in first out to bad really like it

    Cons

their is no job security if you are an elective teacher in this county and you do not get to bring your senority with you

    Advice to Management

Give staff job security and make it a better place to work

    Pros

The people are very friendly. Management does not put their employees under a lot of undue stress. Work hours are consistent and very family friendly.

    Cons

Absolutely no career advancement for people under 50. Will not pay for continuing education. Salaries are a joke compared to private sector.

    Advice to Management

Think about promoting some young talent before they all leave.
