I worked at Orbital Sciences full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with. Everybody was willing to help if I had a question. Worked on some very interesting projects. I learned a lot. Enjoyed the yearly picnic and the newly formed Toastmasters club. - Would love to return if there are opportunities.

    Cons

I can not think of any negatives at this time. It is not my nature to back stab a former employer.

    Advice to Management

None at this time. Management was extremely helpful. I had great supervisors, easy to get along with, friendly.

I worked at Orbital Sciences as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Although it's been 15 years since I've been there, as the title says, this was the best company & team of people I've ever worked with. I loved coming to work every day, and that was with a 70 mile commute each way. At the time, they had a great campus environment in Germantown that housed 3 divisions. Great cafeteria, beautiful location & surroundings, great people to work with. I still think about this company & the people I worked with to this day. If I could just turn back the hands of time...

    Cons

70 mile commute for me to get there every day, but I really didn't care because I loved working at this company so much. My fellow employees were like family so this really isn't a con, although a couple times during snow storms it took me 4-1/2 hours to get home after work. Only other thing was that all good things seem to come to an end. My division moved & eventually was sold to another company, so I lost working in that great campus environment & working with my team.

    Advice to Management

The management that I worked with at the time was great. Only thing I wish is that they didn't break up the campus & move the divisions. That broke up a great team of people that worked together very well. But, business is business & I understand the need sometimes to sell divisions & acquire other companies.

    Pros

Working with rockets. Great people. Very good training program. Over all, I would go back if I could afford the lower wage.

    Cons

Not much to complain about. I would have liked higher wages. The work was good and the people excellent so no real cons.

    Advice to Management

    Raise wages

I have been working at Orbital Sciences full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible Schedules, good benefits, exciting work daily, great resources to learn from, management, no limits to what you can learn and expand on. No cubicles - each employe has their own office. I've worked at 3 other locations aerospace and defense locations, this is the best by far.

    Cons

Office 2007, clashes between internal organizations, raises aren't that great, minimal communication between business groups, typical govt. requirements, etc. it could be A LOT worse elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Take time to listen to your employees, communicate items that could create more excitement and optimism amongst all.

I worked at Orbital Sciences as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

I had a great experience in Orbital's internship program. I learned a lot, my manager was helpful and not overbearing at all, and I worked with a great team who were always willing to help me when I needed it. The company appreciates their interns and really makes an effort to provide a good experience for them.

    Cons

I did not get a very broad experience during my internship because I was only working on one part of one project, but I think that is to be expected.

    Pros

The management is very understanding and flexible with your hours. You can work from home in case you have an emergency, especially if you have kids. The starting pay is not bad. Great benefits so far. Friendly people

    Cons

They give you a raise every year but not that much! It's better than nothing!

    Advice to Management

I suggest to hire enough people.
