I have been working at Orc Group

    Pros

Orc is a community of people who care about the software and service they provide, but who care just as much about the people around them. The services team works as hard as anyone I've seen, and the level of competence and experience is satisfying.

    Cons

At times, information and authority is fragmented... but that seems to be a byproduct of the company's large geographical coverage for a relatively small number of people.

    Advice to Management

Mine the organization for information... there is a ton of collective experience, and it friction to its information moving up the chain. Actively seek out everyone's advice, and you may gain some interesting (and rewarding) perspectives.

I worked at Orc Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Decent condition, normal hours, international environment, general good mood

    Cons

The company produces and sells buggy applications which are difficult to support, also because of the complete absence of training for new members. Tasks tend to be bounced between departments.

I have been working at Orc Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - not very big company, but have many offices around the world - many experienced engineers - developing software for finances, extends knowledge

    I worked at Orc Group

    Pros

A lot of talented people, interesting business and technology, fast moving. Nice offices (Stockholm)

    Cons

Most of engineering has moved to Russia and created somewhat of a cultural gap with negative moral impact. Engineering organization can be a little to top down with a handful of "architects" making the decisions on a lot of things.

    Advice to Management

Maybe try to keep the talent and knowledge available instead of forcing people out and only hire in Russia.

I worked at Orc Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Somehow, Orc are still able to hire fairly good people. Interviews were quite misleading in description and there wasn't always a lot of thought into "will this person actually be a good fit".

    Cons

Generally a bad mood. Most people are looking to leave or just showing up. Sales and Engineering have a huge disconnect. Old school sales culture with very few good eggs.

    Advice to Management

"As long as a decision has been made" isn't an inspiring ethos.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Orc Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Free schedule, very wide variety of technologies used, very unusual products (like in-house implementation of Cocoa for Windows)

    Cons

Bad and slow management, inability to change/use old frameworks and legacy code efficiently. Sticking to very unusual solution (client can run both Windows and Macs) requires very unusual specialists (experienced in both Cocoa and Windows API), same can be said for the backend.

I have been working at Orc Group full-time

    Pros

Everyone in the company has a voice that gets heard. A chance to work with intelligent, stimulating, friendly people A great mix of financial and technical skill sets make this an exciting environment to work in.

    Cons

Challenging times in this sector. To get far and grasp a wide understanding can mean working long hours and investing lots of time

    Advice to Management

Invest in developing the product offering with a long term outlook.
