I worked at Orchepia School Of Music as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Teaching students music theory was pretty straightforward since they use the Julie Macintosh CM books. Atmosphere isn't too serious and can be fun interacting with the different student personalities. Good side job for current or recently graduated college music majors. Pay isn't the greatest but better than minimum wage sales job.

    Cons

Was a 1099 contracted employee which meant I had to pay a large chunk of taxes and had no benefits.

I worked at Orchepia School Of Music part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I worked here because the school offered to sponsor me for an H1-B visa with all the expense paid by me (legally it should be the school's expense). And hoped that after few years in a working visa status, I'll be sponsored for green card (which never happened as this was a false hope). The pay offer was impressive so I grabbed the offer to come and work in the United States even though all the costs will be under my expense. However, they falsified the legal documents with connivance with their lawyers so Immigration could grant them an H1-B visa.

The only pros working in this school - good facilities and good parking! And access to music materials you need. That's it!!!

    Cons

Way too many cons to mention! I concur with all the reviews before this.

    - Management badly needs improvement.
    - Favoritism of management on the teachers they like (if you're Korean, then they love you and you're secured in your job & you get a better pay among others)
    - Management needs to stop lying to their teachers and giving them false hopes that they will be given green card.
    - Management lies with the teachers pay too. They charge the a high tuition rate to the students and pay the teacher very low.
    - Attendance in meetings, trainings and recitals are not paid (which is against labor law)
    - As a new teacher, they will give you a lot of students to teach. But as years go by, your student gets lesser and lesser and you end up teaching like 5 hours a week.
    - This school doesn't provide benefits at all. You still have to come to work if you're sick because no teaching, no pay. And they deduct from your pay check their losses too.
    - No PTO (paid time off) days, no health insurance, absolutely NO PERKS!
    - Management and its administrators (receptionists) are fault finders. When you're in the school, expect a lot of eyes and ears around you. They see and hear what you do.
    - The schools' goal is to make business and definitely not for the enhancement of music education.

If you're someone desperate to have a job, then this place is for you. Working here is like you're in a burning hell!

    Advice to Management

Take management courses and get trained how to run your employees.

I worked at Orchepia School Of Music as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Absolutely nothing. There really isn't a single pro. They have rooms and a building. They have a parking lot... Windows are nice.

    Cons

Management are just plain liars and treat their employees as workers, not as partners.
They sell education disguised as commodity and they completely miss the point of education.
The school has unreasonable expectation of their employees. Go somewhere else. Avoid at all cost.
There is no career advancement here.

I worked at Orchepia School Of Music (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice facility and location. That's it.

    Cons

    -Everything.
-Owners, James Kim & Mary Kang. Both intolerant to just about everything.
-Get everything down in writing and signed by James. Lying is their forte.
-They will never put anything down in writing or email you back. They always wants to talk in person so they can tell you what you want to hear then lie to you saying you heard wrong.
-Lack of proper interview in hiring the right teachers.
    -Useless Theory Program.
    -Useless Theory Teachers.
-If they don't like a teacher, they will transfer out all the students and lie to the parents about some bs like "student rotation."
-Forces you to sign an illegal contract
-Teachers talking in hallways about their contempt working there
-They only have one goal in mind, your money.
-Highest charging music school in all of Orange County and pays the teachers the lowest in all of Orange County. (They take 70%).
-Lost 50% of their teachers in a span of 3 months.
-Teachers constantly leaving due to the way they lie and run their business. Average 3 months before teacher leaves to another school.
    -They just want your money.

    Advice to Management

Orchepia completely lost its primary purpose, and that is to enrich the student's musical education. There is no doubt that this school has been losing a lot of students lately. They have already closed down 1 of their 4 locations and I don't see it going anywhere but down given that there are many new music schools opening in Irvine and most of them were once ex-employees of Orchepia and knows about their poor management.
