I have been working at Orchids Paper Products full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great work environment, not micromanaged, flexible schedule

    Cons

Overworked and under paid is the common theme

    Advice to Management

Too much is expected from 1 person. I started out as a help desk technician and quickly became just about everything IT and much much more. Especially when so many other left the company, their duties became mine with no pay increase to compensate for the extra time and duties that were assigned to me.

I have been working at Orchids Paper Products full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Pay is okay and people are friendly. Have a decent sick-time policy, offer benefits including good healthcare, vision, dental, 401K, life insurance.

    Cons

People don't want to do anything that is not their job. Also people don't even want to do their job. Rotating days to nights is awful, never mind a safety hazard. Hope you live near Pryor or you will be falling asleep at the wheel the morning after your first night shift. No one wants to formally train you or sign off on your training (required for a pay raise) but allow you to run machines that can injure or... kill you in an instant if you make a mistake.

    Advice to Management

Straight Days/Nights and put effort into training and correcting lazy behavior.

I worked at Orchids Paper Products full-time for more than a year

    Pros

If it's for you, four days off after working four days. Decent pay.

    Cons

The heat in summer; Again, four days off. It can make machine operators feel "out of touch," just like one feels after a week of vacation time; Reluctance to spend money on new machine parts; Overall configuration for robot operators. The amount of real estate one is expected to cover is far too much. The palletizer and the entrance to the warehouse (as one HAS TO help the push-back driver when lines run well) are... on opposing corners of the entire factory. And if Line 6 is running manually-wrapped trays as well, forget about it.

    Advice to Management

Machine issues that have been recurring for years and years need to be resolved. For example, how many years (or decades) have those tricky trays on the Line 4 accumulator been dumping toilet paper logs onto the floor. It's wasteful and VERY dangerous trying to catch them before they cause issues and it distracts the operator from tending to the winder properly. It's RIDICULOUS how long issues like that have gone... un-repaired.

    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Orchids Paper Products full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Pay was good. Offered Medical, Dental, and vision, 401k and FSA. Vacation and holidays and also was flexible on employees for FMLA.

    Cons

Management was unable to communicate with honesty. You work hard and give them everything you have to meet deadlines and they use you until everything is corrected and then dissolve your position.

    Advice to Management

Should be more interested creating SOP's and training more effectively. Only interested in what they can do to get money and not in keeping quality employees.

There is to many chiefs that can tell you what to do. They conflict most of the time. You have to figure out how to solve that problem.
