I worked at Oregon Department of Human Services full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The state has decent, but a regressing benefits package. This department has the potential to make a substantial positive impact on the state and communities...but then there are the cons.

    Cons

Too many to bother writing in great length, however, let's just mention that the DHS core values are in NO WAY implemented or practice in reality. This is by far, the most drama packed, two-faced narcissistic and catty environment I have ever worked in...and I've worked in may challenging environments, clientele and co-workers prior to this job with absolutely no issues until...

    Advice to Management

This massive state agency possesses endless potential that it unfortunately is failing to realize for reasons that likely can't be articulated here. Put actual leaders in leadership roles. I have been working at Oregon Department of Human Services full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Medical, Dental, Vision Benefits Pension Plan Vacation/Sick/Personal Time

    Cons

    - Extremely dysfunctional management - Hostile work environment - Lack of Integrity, Respect, and Professionalism (which supposedly are core values of DHS)

    Advice to Management

Recognize that you don't have all the answers. When people come to you with legitimate risks, acknowledge them and move to resolve them. Don't brush people aside because you don't like being held accountable. Take personal responsibility for the mess you've created. This ship is sinking fast. And honestly, it's long overdue for the out-dated structures to die.
