This is a review for Oregon Zoo Foundation, but glassdoor keeps changing it to ODHS

      Pros

Great benefits, wonderful park setting, staff are very committed to fundraising cause for animal welfare and conservation efforts led by the zoo

      Cons

No career trajectory as departments are very small; has a few long-term employees, but has typical non-profit turnover of 2-5 years for most employees; supports an attraction that is under the umbrella of city government, so change is slow and planning is cumbersome

      Pros

Great benefits (multiple package options, state job), good pay, overtime, holiday pay

      Cons

They expect you to put job before family/personal life, you do not know when you will be off work everyday, possible forced holiday work (someone has to be on-call during holidays)

      Pros

Great benefits including medical, dental and vision, sick and vacation time.

      Cons

DHS does not allow for HSS3's to work overtime (and get paid for it) in the Self-Sufficiency office. However, based on the work load assigned to each individual, it is impossible to get the work done without working OT. I was not aware of any employees, even those who had been employed there for years as an HSS3, who did not work through at least a portion of their lunches and breaks for no pay, which is against union rules but if you wanted to keep your job it was necessary. Each branch is able to set up training based on management's desires, regardless if it is effective. I personally witnessed at least one situation where management made it so difficult for the employee to learn that they were basically set up for failure, although I heard rumors that this wasn't the first time. The manager I worked under would take everything her employees said out of context regularly and spend the next 5-10 minutes berating them based on something that wasn't never said, implied or done. She really loved the sound of her own voice, but was unwilling to listen to her employees. The system they use not user friendly. It is DOS based and has been used since 1974 with very few updates.

      Repetitive desk job

      Pros

Decent pay, good hours, holidays off, Secured building, one manager out of four is bound to be professional. Benefits are great and independent work is plentiful.

      Cons

Employees can be disgruntled and unfriendly to new people, clients can be angry and use foul language at you, lots of paperwork, confusions about who is doing what, four managers in one building can be frustrating when they all have different ideas about what you should be doing.

      Terrible employer - great benefits

      Pros

The benefits are great! Once in a while you actually get to help people, the only reason you stick with it.

      Cons

Management! Nobody cares about people and least of all employees, your a number and the only thing that matters is how much you kiss up.
