I have been working at Oregon Institute of Technology part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible work schedule and nice people to work with. Very casual.

    Cons

Bureaucracy at the higher levels make it impossible to work on projects to benefit the student body of the college. Position is for working student so is only paid minimum wage.

    Advice to Management

Prioritize the students (your customers) and identify the administration that prevents serving your customers the best way they can. This prevents growth of the college.

I have been working at Oregon Institute of Technology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. Great Work Life Balance (Fishbowl)
    2. Awesome Benefits ~ Free room and board
    3. Flexible meeting schedule
    4. Free food all the time.
    5. Staff retreat is normally fun!

    Cons

    1. Meetings get old
    2. Dealing with mean residents sucks.
    3. Always on call is hard.
    4. Hard to get a break sometimes.
    5. IRs always happen at the worst times possible.
    6. Haunted House is a tough one.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing a good job of putting the needs of others in front of our own. That is by far the hardest part to learn and to do well at. Also keep up with the cookies and punch at the meetings!

I have been working at Oregon Institute of Technology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Oregon Tech is a fantastic place to work. I've worked for many other organizations, but higher ed is my favorite and I believe that the niche that Oregon Tech fills makes for a very exciting job. This is not your typical university that fills the basic requirements for a degree, but it's a university that really encourages it's students to find their place in the world and excel at it. The size of Oregon Tech means that you get to know your coworkers and students well and really enjoy your time with them, while also bringing new and exciting things your way each new term. The alumni of this university are very invested in the future of it and have a dedication to it that is very encouraging.

    Cons

The only downside to any large organization is that the executive staff can impact it a great deal and it's key to get the best people for the job, which isn't always possible. But when you have a great executive staff leading, as is becoming the case right now, it's incredibly exciting.

I worked at Oregon Institute of Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Small classes limited to 24 students promote learning. Some students are actually willing to learn. You are free to purchase, from your own pocket, whatever educational supplies you need. Many people are happiest on their first and last days at work.

    Cons

Management is penny wise and pound foolish, and very resistant to change. The most brilliant and dedicated become easily frustrated in the stagnant environment. The best academicians leave very shortly after earning tenure.

    Advice to Management

Hire a consulting firm to replace yourselves with people from the most successful colleges and universities, and then please resign.

    Pros

    Nice friendly people
School before work - then again you are a student
Work hard and they will see you. (if you don't work hard, they will talk about you behind your back.)

    Cons

Favorites (but that's because they have been there forever)
Hard work (more towards the people that have been there forever)
The people (you get some good ones, you get some really bad ones)

    Pros

The management was laid back about socializing and such, just as long as the work was finished and completed on time.

    Cons

They seemed to pick favorites a lot and if you weren't part of the favorites list, you didn't get more interesting jobs. (i.e. paint crew over emptying trash cans)
