I have been working at Organic Valley full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Our mission and the people I work with. OV also looks for employee input and wants employees to be honest.

    Cons

No everyone can share their thoughts or concerns constructively so they come out as negative. Also managers who do not come from a feedback/employee questioning background can find it difficult to get used to

I have been working at Organic Valley full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good ideas flourish here. Rather than oppose/resist new and exciting proposals this COOPERATIVE embraces challenges to the status quo and trusts their teams to execute.

We put our farmers/member owners 1st, and that shows in how decisions are made.

We work hard but have a lot of fun.

    And there's chocolate milk everywhere....

    Cons

If you want the biggest check above all else (and at whatever cost) maybe you won't fit here. Compensation seems fair but will not above/beyond what others might offer. Cost of living in the area is very low, and that is a factor.

    Advice to Management

Continue to develop the future organizational leaders, and keep listening to good ideas. To what extent it's possible, continue growing staff in areas where individuals are overwhelmed. Continue encouraging cross-departmental collaboration.

I worked at Organic Valley full-time

    Pros

    Profit share
    Gym
    Great HR department
    On-site cafe

    Cons

Lacks equal pay (especially if your remote; pay reflects WI salaries, not equivalent to out-of-state cost of living)
    Location of HQ very remote
Professional development - regarding mentoring, career path, etc.

I have been working at Organic Valley full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Organic Valley has a mission you can stand behind and feel good about. I look forward to coming to work everyday and knowing what I do can make a real impact on everyone I work with as well as our farmers. The perks that are offered here as well as the laid back culture is like no other. Simply a great place to work!

    Cons

None that I have experienced. This place is great!

    Advice to Management

Keep on doing what you're doing. It has been a wonderful experience so far and I look forward to growing with everyone!

    Pros

Good Life-Work balance, extremely casual dress, mission driven with strong farmer focus. While out in rural WI, offices are modern and well maintained.

    Cons

A small coop that is growing quickly... the company is struggling with how to grow and keep to its roots. Long term employees aren't always open to change. Mid level managers don't have the experience to manage the growth and can't manage the change required of the employees who are sometimes stuck in their ways. Systems are antiquated and take a long time to replace - a lot of collaboration to make a decision. Benefits/perks are good for a rural area and salary is much lower then in a metro area, but you know that when you join. You're not going to make a lot of money here. No clear path for career growth, but if you're here a long time, that's a big benefit as length of time seems to be a big factor in promotions, not skills.

    Advice to Management

Manage for growth if that's what you want to do, and stop living in the past. Bring in people with experience to manage the growth at all levels

I have been working at Organic Valley full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working for a worthy cause, organic food and farming. Employee discount on the great products, beautiful new headquarters. People are smart, dynamic and mean well.

    Cons

Lack of experienced leaders have all been with the company since the beginning. No accountability and poor skills at the highest levels where decisions are made without involving the people doing the work. In the last couple of years, politics is more important than trust because people who can suck up get things done. Good, long term employees are leaving

    Advice to Management

Get some executive training and start paying attention to the rest of the employees. The culture is disappearing and employees who haven't already left are job hunting.
