I worked at Origin Energy full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Flexible working and working from home benefits, bonus's can also be good, employees also get company shares if they stay for 2 years Great place to work if you like a 9-5, with frequent breaks and don't like to be challenged.

    Cons

On the surface, Origin looks great with a dedicated HR (people central) working to improve workplace culture, however reality is extremely different. Within and between departments there is a strong presence of internal politics which creates a very observable gap between management and employees. Workplace experience aims to improve engagement between employees, however a majority of managers use this simply as a checkbox to ensure their own KPI's are met, nothing more. Some see it as a chore. Merit, is not necessarily given or acknowledged, at times employees may receive a gift card or certificate of 'good work' during a quarter. Which is a great first step, but really seems to be nothing more than a piece of paper for a photo op. Technical roles especially are easily taken advantaged of via management (a majority of whom have been within Origin for >5 years) , making it extremely rare for promotions regardless of merit or actual contributions.

I worked at Origin Energy full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

flexible work hours work location flexibility

    Cons

PC culture gone too far - negative promotion potential for males Political infighting over resources/power rather than delivering value Lip service to putting customer first - would rather ship gas/elec to the highest bidder than retain a loyal customer Junior roles are very limited in scope - if early in your career I would recommend going to a smaller sized company or not staying in a position greater than 12mths Use of 'Agile methodology' too often used to deliver low quality product/service Company is now too large and is lacking realistic ideas for future growth - as a result I expect job losses to follow. Poor data governance set up

I worked at Origin Energy part-time for more than a year

    Pros

In my first year at the company it was actually bearable to work there, made great friends and the workplace culture was good. Pay is decent enough. Flexible working arrangements are easy to set up. Modern offices.

    Cons

In my second year at the company everything went downhill, upper management have run the business into the ground and have no concerns about the wellbeing of their loyal staff . Staff mentally exhausted from dealing with problems that they have no power to change. And being yelled at by customers day after day is no way to live. No support offered or action taken when I disclosed sexual harassment by a colleague - it was humiliating enough even having to speak to management about that. Redundancies, jobs being sent overseas and no job stability is the icing on the cake. This business truly sucked the life out of me.

I worked at Origin Energy full-time

    Pros

Company with good values and genuine drive to service energy to people as best as possible. Good flexible working environment and atmosphere in most teams.

    Cons

Have to deal with lack of IT service standards and lack of accountability when issues persist.. The amount of redtape makes changes difficult to happen particularly in the IT space. Major change initiatives are often not well managed. Lack of communication between departments with some unofficial chinese walls in place at times.

I have been working at Origin Energy full-time

    Pros

Flexible work life balance and salary is higher than industry standard

    Cons

There's a very distinct lack of management across the business, and you find a lot of managers give in to request which doesn't always benefit the business. The high volume of workload is also not ideal. The business itself is too relaxed and not enough structure or processes in place.

I worked at Origin Energy full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Flexible working. No pressure to deliver anything, ever. Great for making money if you're a contractor/supplier, due to total chaos and incompetence.

    Cons

Toxic culture. Incompetent, Machiavellian management. Technically incompetent engineers. Constant organisational change that only results in moving the incompetent people around, whilst all the good people rapidly head to the exit door. Total lack of coherent systems and processes. Actively discriminate against men.
