I worked at Orlando Science Center full-time

    Pros

    - The exhibits and member events are fun
    - You learn a lot about science and that's cool
    - The preschool and camps are awesome

    Cons

    - Antiquated practices
    - Senior management team only cares about themselves
    - Employees do not have proper resources to be successful at their jobs
    - High turnover in all departments from hourly employees to middle management
    - Very little PTO

    Advice to Management

    - Pay more to the employees that deserve it
    - Value your good employees, many people have left because of not feeling appreciated

I worked at Orlando Science Center part-time

    Pros

OSC is an in-demand destination for local school field trips. The majority of people that work there have an honest passion in STEM education for students, and promoting science literacy among its adult visitors.

    Cons

Low pay; not supported by management; petty cash was often not on-hand, so part-time staff would have to use their own money to purchase supplies and gas for company vehicles and were not reimbursed in a timely manner (it would often take months to get back)

    Advice to Management

Staff in management of the education department do not listen to the concerns of their part-time education staff (which is the majority of the education department.) None wanted to take responsibility for problems or critiques from the public, so the front-line staff was blamed/reprimanded often for things out of their control.

I have been working at Orlando Science Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people are great. PTO and medical benefits are really great. Company parties are pretty cool.

    Cons

The pay is horrible even if you are working full and in a management position. There's not a lot of room for you to move up. There are a lot of cliques within the organization but they will deny that. There's a lot of personalities that fight for power and everyone thinks their idea is better. Too many Chiefs and not enough Indians.

    Advice to Management

Chill out, you don't make enough to be stressing out!

I have been working at Orlando Science Center full-time

    Pros

collaborative group, a lot of room for growth, enthusiastic and dedicated team who truly care about the mission and want to be there for the most part

    Cons

salaries are low, not competitive with similar positions at other organizations, and it can feel like even the smallest project takes forever due to a ridiculous amount of "process and procedure".

    Advice to Management

you are doing a great job at giving people opportunity to grow and learn and then move on to jobs that pay a lot better. you need consistency in order to sustain the growth you've seen in recent years.

I worked at Orlando Science Center (Less than a year)

    Pros

Get an inside look on what goes on behind the scenes of the science center-meetings, project planning, and working with others
Help improve presentations of projects with team members--from how to display tablets for efficient use in an exhibition or improve hands-on projects like a paper airplane launcher
Many other areas to volunteer if improving projects isn't your interest

    Cons

Tracking people on layout sheets can get repetitive if doing so for many hours

    Advice to Management

None. Thank you all for being so supportive!

I worked at Orlando Science Center part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everyone who works there cares about kids and their education. Fairly flexible with hours. Good benefits. Fun work environment.

    Cons

Resources are sometimes short so at times we wouldn't have all the supplies we needed to complete activities.

    Advice to Management

Give more practical support during training. Sometimes it felt like we were left to figure things out without a lot of support.

I worked at Orlando Science Center full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Vacation time, pay was okay, hours were good, and loved my co-workers.

    Cons

No room for growth, always trying to pinch a penny, management is a revolving door.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the dinosaurs in upper management and bring in some young people with new and fresh ideas.
