I worked at Orlando Utilities Commission full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

OUC is a wonderful place to work. Many opportunities for advancement; the people are friendly and welcoming. Free parking; good benefits and 401K plan.

    Cons

Start time of 7:30am for many positions can be challenging. Many admin positions start as contractor positions for the first 3-4 months with lower hourly rates. Becoming permanent can take time and "reminding." But then the hourly rate increases quickly!

I have been working at Orlando Utilities Commission (More than a year)

    Pros

Being able to obtain the experience of working in a Utilities Department.

    Cons

I would not recommend this company to anyone. Its hard to get promoted. And I believe that it is all about who you know

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, raise the pay, give bonuses and treat your employees as if they are people too.

I have been working at Orlando Utilities Commission full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

It provides a stable work environment with most of the leadership who support family oriented priorities. They are currently conducting leadership 360 reviews and I want to believe they will make good decisions based on the results.

    Cons

They allow people to be in higher levels of management who have no business being in leadership let alone have any idea what they are doing. When I say allow, this comes after numerous employees have made formal complaints regarding a specific person. Interestingly they just move this person to another area to do it all over again, instead of doing the right thing for the employees and dealing with the problem. Perhaps this is the typical government model.

    Advice to Management

Bring in real leaders who know how to cultivate a team, inspire, and bring the best out of people. Daunting task for sure but it starts with cleaning house first.

I worked at Orlando Utilities Commission (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Company is good company to work because the benefits are good however, there is a lot of other companies in Orlando that have good benefits and better.

    Cons

The worst experience ever had was working in the customer service department. Changes are made consistently, they have a very high turn around people come and go. they hired a lot of temp and work them without benefits. training suck and management need to know how to treat they staff.
