I have been working at Ortec (Easley, SC) full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Family Owned and Operated Salary is great. It's not like going to work for me, it's like going to a place where my best friends are and working on things that are fun and entertaining and new everyday. If you work hard and do your job you will succeed and be praised for your work.

    Cons

Sometimes there's some breakdowns in communication but other than that none really.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. It really feels like you care about your employees.

I worked at Ortec (Easley, SC) full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Some people are enjoyable to be around

    Cons

On 3rd shift there was: Unchecked racism against black employees. I heard black employees addressed as "boy" as well as straight up slurs. Unprofessional/crass behavior from other coworkers such as exposing themselves to others in jest. High school locker room behavior. One guy even left the job site (still clocked in) to see a romantic partner for 2 hours. No pay for being on call. Meager shift differentials.

    Advice to Management

You need to hire a manager for the off-shift so that your employees actually have some oversight.

I have been working at Ortec (Easley, SC) full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Private, Family owned Chemical company. Second generation with strong leadership. Solid financially and work ethic demonstrated at highest level. I have been working at the Piedmont, SC GMP facility 5 years and looking forward to many years to come. Rewarding opportunities with growth potential for ambitious employees who are willing to learn the ropes first. Fast paced environment serving demanding Industry leading...

    Cons

Fast paced environment is not for everyone. Just in time toll manufacturing sometimes under strict time constraints can be challenging. Operations works swing shifts while other departments work straight shifts. Due to rapid growth, weekend work is becoming more common.

    Advice to Management

Communication is key. Keeping everyone abreast of activities and expectations as well as sharing success goes a long way to encourage enthusiastic participation by staff. Keep the family atmosphere going. Work toward identifying talent and placing the right people in the right job position based on proven ability including promotion from within. Reposition or relocate underperforming employees before resentment and...

I worked at Ortec (Easley, SC) for more than a year

    Pros

The people here can be very enjoyable to work with. There are still a few higher-ups who are willing to teach and support those who are motivated to learn.

    Cons

When I first started working here (at the Piedmont location) it wasn't too bad, but unfortunately a large growth in business coupled with bad and uncorrected management practices quickly made Ortec an increasingly frustrating place to work. Terrible management that is afraid to let employees learn new skills and grow in their career for fear that their employees will learn more than them and make them look bad. I wanted...

    Advice to Management

For the really high-up management, you need to take a long, hard look at who you hire to manage your employees. If you do not get rid of the bad management you hired and allow them to continue to oppress their employees you will have a much different work culture than you expect to exist.
