I worked at Ortho Clinical Diagnostics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If allowed, you get to learn some great technology, but don't count on it.

    Cons

Personnel in some vital departments are, and are very vengeful and petty, they will make sure your career is ruined.

    Advice to Management

Clean house, especially in the training and HR. Both departments are going to end up costing you more than it's worth in litigation and pay outs.

I have been working at Ortho Clinical Diagnostics full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The teams are composed of wonderful people to work with, smart and hard working

    Cons

    -Resources spread too thin
    -Budgets are not tracked
-no real PMO, no awareness of triple constraint; time to market always rules
-poor practices are being adopted and driven to cut cost by senior leadership
-no prioritization on initiatives- want things all at once yesterday and the workforce is getting burnt out and high turnover is a result.
-reduced quality of medical device products due to time and budget constraints to the point of FDA Compliance risks.

    Advice to Management

For senior leadership positions hire the right qualified candidate for the position with relevant experience to do their jobs correctly. Make sure they have direction, its aligned with the business needs, strategy to get there, and are willing to invest in employee development to move the business forward in the right direction. Stop doing the all at once approach- prioritize and strategize to get products on the market faster- and you will in turn have ROI more quickly to re-invest in other initiatives.

I have been working at Ortho Clinical Diagnostics full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Ortho has a Great history in diagnostics. In Transfusion Medicine they were a pioneer in creating the category. Over the year investment had dried up under J&J but since it was sold off the company has a renewed sense of purpose. People joining the company care, and are eager to advance it forward. The current leadership is , dedicated employees, Leadership team put in place since divestiture knows the industry and understands what it takes to stand up a company. They drive hard but understand it takes time to get the processes in place that make sense for the size and type of company we are.

    Cons

The former parent company applied general processes to the business that may not have been ideal for the company. We're still trying to unwind and rebuild the organization, and sometimes when you are trying to run fast the old processes can get in the way. Culture is evolving but there is a mix of people who have always done things one way and are not used to being held accountable for their performance. This is partially because in the past there was on and off investment by the former parent company & the revolving door or management which often resulted in the company canceling programs or not investing in the long term health of the business. People rarely had to see anything through. It's definitely changing for the better, but it takes time.

    Advice to Management

Keep pushing the organization to change old processes and right size the way we do things. We need to get more nimble and rip off all the band aides put on processes over the years.
