I have been working at Oshkosh Corporation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I'm not sure how many people outside of the Oshkosh family comprehend the scope and reach of this organization. We have offices and factories in dozens of countries, each focused on building a variety of difference-making equipment for customers all over the world. How many other jobs can you say your work helps save lives or push the boundaries of productivity and innovation? And because of the global nature of Oshkosh Corporation, team members have a very real opportunity to travel and even transplant to places most could only dream of.

    Cons

Oshkosh Corporation is a very large Fortune 350 company and with that comes the expected stress, politics and upheaval. It can leave you feeling a little adrift at times, but many would consider this con to be an exciting challenge and the rewards to be worth it.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing! A vast majority of team members feel that this company is experience a renaissance at the moment, primarily because of CEO Wilson Jones and the People First culture he is trying to bring to this great company. It's never going to be easy, but you're definitely on the right path.

    Pros

There are indeed alot of opportunities for growth, if only you had any authority to exercise those opportunities. There are current openings available at the company. The last is a great reason to apply if you are desperate for a job.

    Cons

Upper level management is clueless along with other corporate departments on what needs to be done to take care of current issues. The entire company is a clique and if you aren't in the group, you will get nowhere. The character of corporate mid level leadership is not good. These people beat you into the ground to promote themselves all the while being poor civil examples for the rest of the company. This makes it extremely difficult to do the right thing and get anywhere above your position. The work life balance is considered an average of 60/hrs/wk with no OT. This makes our turnover rate astronomical with salaried people.

The insurance packages the company offers to its salary staff are shameful compared to what they dole out to the union workforce. You cannot have an illness. Regardless, you will pay upwards of $150/month as an individual for insurance and still have a $1750 deductible. Otherwise you can pay $100/month and have a $3000 deductible. If you have a family like me, best of luck. The company is truly being unfair with their benefits. They dont match 401k anywhere near what other corporations are offering. 50% match up to 6%. All of these things give me reason to seek employment elsewhere. Best of luck to all fellow employees, Im getting out of here as soon as possible.

    Advice to Management

Get with the program. Understand that what you are doing is driving your employees away. You can't keep promoting the people that buy you rounds at the bar and depend on them to do the right thing. You have been bought and you need to right the ship before it sinks. Yes, military contracts are great but when you are done selling trucks on your last contract, where will you go from here? A strong workforce will stand behind you. Your current workforce however, won't be left standing.

I have been working at Oshkosh Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I believe in their mission to protect those (Warfighters), who protect us. The vehicles Oshkosh makes are second to none, they are quality vehicles that literally save lives everyday.
    The benefits are fair.

    Cons

HR and some members of the leadership team treat people (even a salaried employee like myself) as a number and don't take individual circumstances into consideration. The management is top-down only. Those with ideas or concerns on the bottom (manager and down) do not have a voice and will not be heard.

    Advice to Management

Listen to those that are doing the work at the bottom and mid-levels, give them a forum, give them a voice. Leadership does not have a handle on what is happening at those levels and they continue to make changes without asking those people their thoughts. In many cases, the changes end up doing more harm than good. If you would ask people at the manager level and below for insight, you can prevent a lot of unnecessary hardship as well as saving time and money.

    Pros

Used to have good pay and benefits. No longer worth the trouble. You will be much happier working somewhere else for less money.

    Cons

Company doesn't self invest. Appears like their ready for a quick exit strategy. Layers upon layers of management with no accountability or decision making. Broken tools, bad parts, ridiculuos tack times, and endless cleaning duties. You're never gonna win. .

    Advice to Management

Executives need to start paying attention to what's going on down on the floor and get to the root of the problems. Get him outta here.

I have been working at Oshkosh Corporation as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

The staff are very nice people to work with but everyone seems to work in fear.

    Cons

Project Management and Organization is lacking at every level. There is no clear scheduling, quality control and no clearly defined leadership roles with accountability and direction. As a result their projects run long, extremely costly and appear to be more complicated then they should. Their turnover rate is through the roof and they use several consulting firms which are constantly at odds. The management roles they do have in place present several conflicts of interest which is the root cause of stagnation.

    Advice to Management

Put the right people in charge at the right levels. Promote collaboration and adopt one of the several Agile methodologies to help keep and project project Velocity.

    Pros

Only good thing about working here is the paycheck.

    Cons

Treats employees as numbers, not people. Hiring process is very misleading and in some cases straight up lies. The company has little concern with following the union contract. Worst atmosphere I have ever worked in.

    Advice to Management

Your "people first" initiative is the furthest thing from what actually is practiced. Treat your employees as people, rather than a number on a line.

    Pros

Decent pay and you get plenty of hours . Good janitorial staff. It is nice that they have plenty of room to move when looking for new job

    Cons

The Union is a joke. And management spins the PR BS about people first and it true as long as your not an employee

    Advice to Management

    Pros

    Advice to Management

Verantwortung lässt sich nicht teilen. Man muss lernen, dass Leute, die Verantwortung übernehmen, auch die Befugnis zur Entscheidung haben müssen.

    Pros

Oshkosh truck offers great pay rate and did have a fairly quick raise rate and the benefits package was a great package.

    Cons

Despite the good pay rate and the great benefits package, trucks didnt have much room to grow professionally and also management was sometimes horrible in changes that would be made in production lines.

    Advice to Management

The feedback I would like to offer is that they should hear more of what the people who actually assemble the parts and work on the line instead of just letting someone who hasnt worked on the line make changes according to some data sheet.

I have been working at Oshkosh Corporation full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

It has a demanding customer, and is a fast paced manufacturer. There are plenty of opportunities for improvements, and the chance to work on many big projects. Products are very cool, and serving the customer is rewarding.

    Cons

The expectation of working more hours. Never ending work load and a lack of training. Old-boy network controls promotions, and there is an overall resistance to change.

    Advice to Management

Share the wealth, low raises are an insult. Actually show that you value your workforce by listening to them. Maybe consider embracing 20th century (or even 21st!) management methods.
