I have been working at Oshkosh Corporation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Relaxed environment, good benefits, reasonable expectation, good work/life balance.

    Cons

Very low chances of getting promoted. I guess it all boils down to 'who' do you know and not 'what' do you know.

    Advice to Management

I guess hiring from external world is important or may be necessary but please put some efforts in promoting internal people too. It does not do good to employee morale when they see a less experienced external person is hired at a senior position.

    Pros

The corporation builds some fantastic products with man very good people across North America and abroad.

    Cons

There are business units where it has been a challenge to stay positive and see a positive long term future.

    Advice to Management

Focus on your most important resources (people) with sustainable actions in addition to determining a solid visible strategy.

I have been working at Oshkosh Corporation full-time

    Pros

The flexible schedules that were recently implemented and the ability to work remote when needed. More PTO than most places give you. 401k match and life insurance. Educational reimbursement.

    Cons

The training budget is always cut but they have no problems spending money on conferences for Management. The emphasis that is placed on any type of bachelors degree over actual experience and time with the company along with the many unwritten rules/restrictions make moving up in the company quite difficult.

    Advice to Management

The communication from most of the management team is bad. They attempt to use trickle down so that each leader is responsible for communicating to their specific team. However, most leaders never communicate said information to their team.

I have been working at Oshkosh Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great pay, job opportunities, a lot to learn, fast paced, generous benefits, fantastic quality product

    Cons

Culture is very poor, upper management seems very disconnected, 1st shift and 2nd shift are not treated equally, HR seems like they work against management than with management, training is severely lacking, disorganized to the point that it can sometimes be embarrassing. Office employees seem to come off as a clueless to what goes on within the manufacturing facilities. Too many inconsistencies.

    Advice to Management

There is such great potential with this company, weed out the bad eggs and cut the red tape and allow those who want to grow have more of a voice.

    Pros

    * Greenfield Opportunities - Lots of opportunity to do things for the first time in areas that more mature companies already have processes in.
    * Increased engagement with Employees - Management is showing an increased focus on employee engagement and communitie involvement.
    * Focus on Continuous Improvement - Very good Continuous Improvement and Quality system in place.
    * Flexible Work Environment and Schedules - Management increasingly open to letting employees work from alternative locations and varying schedules.

    Cons

    * Lack of a headquarters office - Employees spread over multiple buildings; lots of staff location shuffling.
    * Duplicate Functions - Company still operates like a holding company and as such has lots of duplicate functions (IT, Finance, HR, Engineering, etc.). This makes getting things done at the enterprise level across all segments and functions very difficult.

    Advice to Management

Continue focus on transforming the culture with focus on continued employee engagement, work life balance, and community involvement. Commit to being an operating company and consolidate core functions vs. the hybrid morass that exists today.

I have been working at Oshkosh Corporation part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very competitive work environment, at times, work can be very stressful. It is a unique company that makes quality products, but the nature of the business is demanding.

    Cons

    Poor onboarding for new hires.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to fully believe in the change and set a good example for their subordinates.
Create welcoming work environment and make an effort to engage with other employees.

    Pros

Excellent job experience. I was pushed far out of my comfort zone. This job is not for the faint of heart.

    Cons

Long hours in an intense work environment. The union is very difficult to work with. High pressure to perform.

    Advice to Management

Work life balance is key to retaining employees. The salaries people I worked with did not truly get paid for their time.
