      Great People First Culture

      Business Outlook

      Pros

The People First Culture is truly making a difference in creating an environment where people want to work and feel like they can make a difference!

      Cons

Even with the Great People First Culture, you still have to be willing to navigate the dynamics and change associated with a large publicly traded company.

Definitely don't go into the IT department

      Jul 28, 2020 - Manager

      Pros

      - The CEO is really someone you want to get behind. - The industry is one of the most stable in the US right now - The CEO really does try to make the company a great one to work for - The people on the ground doing the work really are great and most people are nice to work with that aren't in Leadership positions. - The company is big, so there could be more career opportunities if you find your interests move, IF you're in Wisconsin (not so much if you're not). - Work/life balance is one of the best I've ever had.

      Cons

      - There is a hyper focus on Wisconsin. If you're an employee not in Wisconsin or one who works mostly remote, the Leadership seems to look at you as less than and your ability for promotion is greatly reduced. - The IT department is abysmal and run by Leadership who does not have the same care and "people first" mindset of the CEO or Leadership in other parts of the organization. - There is an "old boys" mentality in Leadership, not just in IT. They rely heavily on scratching the backs of those they've worked with and "outsiders" are seen as that for an extremely long time. - Very few true Leadership opportunities for minorities or women (outside of the stereotypical HR positions). Biggest take away: The IT department has taken an almost adversarial response to the rest of the organization. The focus not just of the CIO but also of his new hires has been on profit and nothing else, and he has very little interest in the employees on his team or how to engage with them. He (and the people he has hired since taking position) are extremely resistant to counter opinions and sees any dissent as a reason you're expendable. The department is poorly run and people who have worked here for decades are seriously unhappy for the first time in a lifelong career. It's disheartening and no one at the top seems to be listening. There have been several complaints to HR that are dismissed, and there is no feedback loop to get to the good Leadership at the top to let them know what's happening. I think that's why people are turning to Glassdoor - in hopes the feedback sees the light of day. - The healthcare package is well below the standard for a company of this size.

CIO is not a good leader

Nov 12, 2019 - Anonymous Employee in Oshkosh, WI

      Pros

Oshkosh Corp as a whole is a great company to work for. They are trying to do the right things overall. Old company with old processes but trying to turn that around.

      Cons

CIO leadership style leaves a lot to be desired. It’s his way or the highway. He isn’t open to other people’s thoughts or opinions, even his senior leaders. He will immediately discount anything you say without hearing what you have to say. He enjoys change for the sake of change only. He doesn’t see value in most of the work the IT staff is doing because it doesn’t support the initiatives he wants to use to promote himself. A lot of really good individuals have left the company due to the CIOs leadership style. He is not a People First leader when it comes to his IT staff.

      Pros

Great work environment, awesome job, problem solving while overseeing all aspects of a program

      Cons

salary could be better in order to keep people from leaving. Some SR leaders fail to recognize that as well as not living the CEO's vision of people first.

Build a Career at Oshkosh Corporation

      Pros

I just needed a job so I could support my family. The job turned into a career with mentors along the way! You can build business acumen, technical skills and people skills all in one company. In addition, this place believes in engaging and supporting our surrounding communities.

      Cons

People first clashes with the realities of continual overtime within different business units/departments. Because of this moral suffers and trust is low.

Oshkosh has a great CEO and many great leaders throughout the organization! We are a few years into the People First journey and the culture is improving! Career development Flexibility in pockets of the organization Competitive pay Training to change leader behaviors Voice of the employee is being collected and used!

      Cons

Low accountability for leaders who resist the change and display poor behaviors Highly polarized organization The people first culture is not embraced in some functions

      Great Company, Awful IT Function

      Oct 16, 2019 - IT Manager

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Majority of Leadership are very kind and you can see the culture changing. CEO is a wonderful person who really does care about the people at the company.

      Cons

New CIO is not aligned with the people first culture. If you do not agree with his vision or leadership style he will hold a grudge against you or fire you. The company is losing a lot of real talent.

      Good place to work

      Jun 7, 2019 - Design Engineer

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Flex time, decent benefits and 401k match, very generous PTO that goes up with years of service

      Cons

Poor engineering facilities (they literally have people working in trailers since there isn't enough room). Some management hasn't bought into the "People First" culture. Expectation of working unpaid overtime for salary exempt workers.

      Worst place to ever work

      Pros

Pay is decent. some managers are good.

      Cons

The hr department is heartless. The people first culture is fake, it is only meant for salaried personnel, I got that directly from management. if you do too much and outshine management they will falsely accuse you of things you would never do.
