I have been working at Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Choices full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The home style atmosphere is nice.

    Cons

The administration lacks a basic knowledge of people skills and seems to have no healthcare knowledge. They don't pay holiday but expect that you work it and have you take out of your PTO.

    Advice to Management

Your employees are what makes this company work. Respect them. Listen to them. Pay them appropriately if they do a good job send them on their way if they don't.

I worked at Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Choices part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Relaxed, home-like environment, residents have their private rooms, and can have meals with their families, etc.

    Cons

Nurse-resident ratio is very high. It is not one nurse per house. Nurses keep going back and forth between houses with little to no time left to fully assess their patients. Multiple admissions at a time happen frequently. Low pay, high turnover, no holiday pay.

    Advice to Management

Please, listen when your nurses say they need help! Maybe hiring one admission nurse or scheduling 3 nurses at all times would be much safer and cheaper in the long run. Hire housekeeping so the STNAs can be STNAs.

I have been working at Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Choices part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Really nice place to work, laid back,

    Cons

The place is really nice it's some of employees not so nice.

    Advice to Management

You really need to hire more mature, experienced people, not these young things that are bossy and think they know it all!

    Pros

I love the concept, it's more like a home rather than your typical depressing nursing home. The aides seem to really care about the residents, that really seems to be the only thing keeping them there.

    Cons

Poor training, aides are responsible for the cleaning, cooking, dishes, laundry, and patient care. They mandate you to stay if your relief does not come in (happens a lot). 8 hours shifts turn into 16 hrs. You can not plan a life outside of work when you have no idea IF you are going to work 8 or 16. It's also unsafe as employees are exhausted and tired.

    Advice to Management

Stop the gift card game and pay a good competitive wage to everyone (you're asking a lot of the aides (cook, maid, and caregiver!). Switch to 12 hr shifts with 3 aides 7am to 7pm and 2 aides 7pm to 7am. This ensures coverage if one calls off and allows aides to actually take breaks/lunches.

    Pros

The professional staff really care about the residents and the quality of their work. I would recommend for seniors looking for a clean, safe place to live.

    Cons

Management is a mixed bag. Some are good and some are not so good at managing people.

    Advice to Management

Marketing jobs and clinical jobs are not the same thing.

I worked at Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Choices part-time

    Pros

The elders (residents) have a lot more freedom than at a regular nursing home.

    Cons

Extremely understaffed. Nurses need to keep going back and forth between houses. Two or three admissions altogether are frequent. No holiday pay.

    Advice to Management

The turn over would probably be less if the wages were more competitive and if there were more nurses scheduled per shift. It is not safe to stay at a minimum. Residents pay a huge amount of money every month and deserve better care.
