I have been working at Our Lady of the Lake (Louisiana) full-time

    Pros

I absolutely love my coworkers, and my direct manager. They've all been incredibly helpful during my budding career, and they are all incredibly passionate about their jobs. They truly do put their patients first, and put forth the "spirit of healing" into caring for their patients.

    Cons

The upper management place the nurses in precarious situations at times, with some units not being optimally staffed according to acuity levels. They staff based on ratio regardless of what is going on with the patient. This places us in very uncomfortable situations at times, especially during night and weekends shifts.

    Advice to Management

Take acuity levels of the patients into consideration before pulling nurses from their home units to float on other units. It shouldn't be simply by 6:1 ratio without taking the health or complications of the patients into consideration, which I feel happens far too often, especially during night/weekends.
