I worked at Outdoors, Inc. full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Outdoors Inc. Attracts some of the most interesting employees, most around mid 20s. A great intro level job for someone looking for basic sales experience. Includes great discounts to employees for high end products including, The North Face, Yeti, Columbia, Patagonia, Prana, Mountain Khaki, and many other recreation specific products.

    Cons

There's a list... Low income: starting pay is invariably around minimum wage and there is a minuscule chance of ever getting a raise. Minimal positions: Even getting this job is mostly by referral, retail and outdoors life experience is required! Bad management: work was always delegated, and very rarely did I see most of my managers do anything more than the bare minimum. Multiple times I was asked to work through...

    Advice to Management

As a small company all in one city, have a better understanding of what is going on in your stores. don't just go off of your monthly meetings alone, actually try to ask the right questions and get to know all of your employees. There aren't that many.

I worked at Outdoors, Inc. full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great people to work with, fun atmosphere to be around, handling and selling cool products, good customers, industry pro deals and discounts

    Cons

LOW PAY, old school thinking when it comes to business and marketing, a pervasive attitude throughout upper management that everyone's replaceable, no upward mobility

    Advice to Management

Use the vast talent that you have within your company - invest in your employees and they will devote themselves to the business and help you grow. Let go of some of the handling of the business and delegate those responsibilities to your upper management team. Pay your workers a living wage.
