I worked at Outerwall full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great opportunity to work across several lines of business: Redbox, Coinstar, ecoATM and SampleIT with varying degrees of data and organizational structure and maturity which was great exposure and opportunity to work at both a startup and a mature organization at the same time

    Cons

Conflicting priorities, disjointed goals and objectives, clashing cultures between organizations

I worked at Outerwall full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Outerwall has some good people who truly care

    Cons

This company refuses to set a direction for it's employees. Each division works in silos and work gets duplicated because of lack of communication between teams. The CEO seems more concerned with lining his pockets than driving the company to the next level. There is no marketing effort whatsoever and the standing businesses are falling behind the current technology trends (still no viable streaming service for movies, can't figure out how to be a true player in the games space, can't get out of it's own way to provide a mobile solution to exchange gift cards, doesn't know how to leverage the cell phone leasing movement).

I have been working at Outerwall full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

"The people" who work there are dedicated and many really believe they make a difference.

    Cons

Terrible board that is hated by leadership. CEO hated by Sr. Leaders. Complete hypocricsy

    Advice to Management

    Just sell the place already.

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Outerwall full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The culture is great. Teams are collaborative with a genuine interest in improving the business. With the new CEO the executive team is top notch, diverse and the best I've worked with in my long career. They also focus on and invest in the environment, local community and giving back.

    Cons

The systems and process need a lot of improvement; however, the management team recognizes this and are moving in the right direction - but it will take time.

With the management team split between WA and IL, the distance and phone vs. face-to-face can be challenging.

    Advice to Management

Keep moving in the direction headed. Expand the successful pilot businesses faster to off-set the slower growth of Coin and Redbox. Look for international opportunities.
