Pros
Work from home, make your own hours, take your work anywhere you go
Cons
Isolating, lack of training, paid holidays, vacations discouraged, you must pay your replacement and absorbent amount of money to fill in for you, AND train them, expect lots of work for minimal pay

Pros
Ability to work from home. Working with authors is fun. Flexible schedule.
Cons
Low pay, no benefits, contract job
- Current Contractor★★★★★
Pros
This company offers autonomy and a decent workload.
Cons
Contractors are often left out of the loop
- Current Contractor★★★★★
Pros
Telecommuting position and allows flexibility to work around personal schedules. Capable contractors are rewarded with more revenue earning opportunities. If you prove yourself to be reliable, competent and a quick learner, you will be offered more roles to earn income beyond the role you were originally contracted to do.
Cons
It sometimes feels as if the financial compensations don't match the work in terms of the time. Management underestimates the time the back and forth exchange with authors can take. Time off is discouraged as it is the contractor's role to secure and pay for a replacement to cover work if out of office. Contractors already hustle as much as time allows to earn their monthly income, anything taken from that monthly income can be a challenge to a family counting on the typical monthly income.

Pros
Set own schedule and get to consult one-on-one with great authors.
Cons
Lower Management not consistent with what is expected for everyone on their team

Pros
Work from any where, and being able to work on your own schedule.
Cons
You don't get paid till the book publishes
- Current Freelancer★★★★★
Pros
Flexible: You can set own schedule and turn down projects that aren't a good fit. Supportive staff: I've had strong support and great communication with those I have worked with, albeit almost all communication is via email.
Cons
Like most freelance work, workload can be inconsistent and you are responsible for any further skill acquisition or professional development
- Current Contractor★★★★★
Pros
They do great printing with their children's books.
Cons
Too many illustrators makes for a lot of competition to get jobs
