    Pros

The enviroment at Overstock.com is great! I love my co-workers (well...my family) and the management at Overstock.com. This is by far the most exciting and rewarding place to work in Utah. Patrick Byrne is an excellent CEO. We asked for an ice machine at a meeting....and he delivered within just a few days! =)

    Cons

I agree with a review posted on here that the advancement opportunities can be a little bit unfair at times.

    Advice to Management

Let each employee meet with Patrick Byrne and discuss their interests, carreer goals, etc.

    Pros

Real people, very laid back and comfortable environment. I don't feel as if there is a lot of workplace politics and corporate inefficiencies that interfere with the goal of the company.

    Cons

The health care options could be better, but it seems as if this is something common and unfortunately becoming more common in many corporations.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the employee recognition that you do, simple emails of recognition after a late night of work are much appreciated.

    Pros

    The insurance benifits are superb.

    Cons

Don't try to get ahead in this company unless you are "in" with someone. Most promotions are based on personal feelings of team leads and supervisors, not you performance or capeabilities. Upper management has been hired from within, that means not many are qualified for the positions and almost all new projects and procedures are always a work in progress, and are usually at odds with the other departments. Working at the call center is a nightmare for the most part.

    Advice to Management

When you say you are going to do something, DO IT! Some of your best employees are stuck because hiring managers hire for "Personality" rather than for their qualifications.

    Pros

Much scrutiny is given to potential employees, so good people are typically hired. Fast paced, fun environment. Great location right next to the mountains.

    Cons

Not a lot of vacation hours.

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up.

    Pros

Lot's of very smart developers who are dedicated to the professional growth of themselves and their colleagues.

    Cons

There are some disconnects between the business side and IT. Big surprise.

    Advice to Management

I don't have any advice for management that I haven't shared internally.

    Pros

It is a place to work where individual opinion is respected throughout all levels of the organizaion. They truly get leadership and recognize and foster leadership potential.

    Cons

A relatively young company so they are experiencing normal growing pains.

    Advice to Management

Systems and processes will become more important as the company continues to grow. Apply more resources in these arenas.

    Pros

Benefits, especially medical are second to none in terms of price and coverage.

    Cons

Technology is stagnant and not progressive. Marketing VP runs the company. Technology, though central to the business is secondary.

    Advice to Management

Hire more Junior developers to do the job since you really don't take advantage of the talent of the Senior Developers you employ.

    Pros

Best job I have ever had. Everyone pulls their weight.

    Cons

The HR policies are a little immature.

    Advice to Management

The HR policies need to migrate towards a mature set of policies, rather than a stripped down non-inclusive set of policies (and benefits).
