    Pros

Instructors are given a lot of freedom as long as you design your teaching approach around their basic curriculum, you should be fairly successful. All staff & faculty members are extremely friendly and helpful if you have issues with anything, so asking questions to anyone who is employed there would be advantageous.

    Cons

Not many Cons about Owens CC, just making sure you do your duties as an Instructor or else your class will be out of your control. It's basically based on your dedication to your position - if you do not communicate, then there may be issues, yet as long as you communicate efficiently with your supervisor and co-workers, then everything should be smoothly operating.

    Advice to Management

Unless things have drastically changed since I was a Sociology Instructor there, then I have no advice to management since my experience was so satisfying. You are given a lot of space, so I don't recommend decreasing the privilege of allowing Instructors to work freely by engaging students in their academics. Let freedom reign!

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Owens Community College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good work/life balance, many employees who truly care for their students. Caseloads for advisors are manageable and their programs actually lead to jobs! Benefits are fantastic, but this is true of most state higher ed.

    Cons

Poor salaries compared to even other institutions in the area, recent financial trouble has led to downsizing that has hurt their enrollment

    Advice to Management

Pay just a little better! You lose so many people to UT and BGSU over just a couple thousand dollars a year. Think about all the time your leadership spends in search committees and interviews...you could just pay that to you current employees and they may just stay!

I worked at Owens Community College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, great students and faculty. Good parking and safe environment to work in! Some benefits are good. Upper management is not observed on campus often

    Cons

Hour fluctuations. You cannot count on a specific pay amount because it changes so often. You have long breaks between semesters with no pay.

    Advice to Management

When you have a great employee you should try to keep them.

    Pros

Working with the people that were there. Saw Owens grow from 2,000 to 23,000.

    Cons

Salaries were low. Not sure I agree with some of the decisions made by upper Administration.

I worked at Owens Community College (More than a year)

    Pros

A great place to work. My coworkers (other tutors, adjuncts, etc) were super friendly, and nice to have around during the (frequent) downtime. I liked being able to do my own homework during slower days. Really good pay for the work.

    Cons

Hours are capped at 24 for tutors, but the pay combined with being a student makes it very much worth the compromise.

This Job was very rewarding and challenging. Helping adults successfully complete the newest version of the General Education Diploma test. Approximately 50% of students were able to complete successfully.

    Cons

Classes had mixed levels of education, making it difficult to stay on track.

I have been working at Owens Community College full-time

    Pros

There are none. The place is a fiscally irresponsible mess

    Cons

Too many to count. No raises. Abuse of powers. Discrimination and civil rights abuse. No money at the school in their budget. Nepotism. Favoritism. They only keep the employees that agree with ignorant management those that speak up or outshine their master is immediately fired

    Advice to Management

Quit being sued weekly. That is the real reason you are on fiscal watch. Hr plays on Facebook all day and throws parties every Friday. Operate as a community college
