    Pros

Lots of hours and decent paychecks due to multiple employee absences and having to carry their weight.

Never get out on time due to multiple absences, poor job performance and weak management.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Owens & Minor was once a great company with a longstanding culture of caring for its employees (affectionately referred to as "teammates"). There are no distinct advantages to working at Owens & Minor anymore except to receive a paycheck and a costly high deductible health insurance plan. If you do choose to work at Owens & Minor, you should maintain a backup plan because with a rate of turnover that far exceeds the industry. Owens & Minor is now well known for recurring layoffs in its field locations due to lost business and layoffs in its management due to constant restructuring. Their primary competitors, Medline and Cardinal Health are better run and offer a vertical integrated service model that is better suited to most modern integrated health distribution networks.

    Cons

In July of 2015, Cody Phipps assumed the role of CEO. Since that time, they have restructured at least 3 times, lost multiple large customers totaling over a billion dollars, and systematically destroyed a long standing culture of caring for its employees. The restructuring has resulted in the loss of hundreds of jobs. The company has implemented an internal communication plan with a theme of "Transformation to a culture of purpose". What people really say is that it is a transformation to a culture of fear and despair! No one talks in the hallway and no one smiles. The head of HR is an advocate to no one, does not speak to employees, and is simply a tool for facilitating employee layoffs. Compensation at Owens is average and benefits are below average. Merit increases over the last several years have averaged just 2%.

    Advice to Management

Do not expect loyalty from your employees if you are not equally loyal to them. Integrity and Collaboration were once key elements of the O&M culture. Unfortunately, those words are no longer respected within your organization. The continued loss of business and declining margins will continue and, in the end, you will go down the route of other Richmond, VA based organizations like Circuit City and Best Products.

    I worked at Owens & Minor full-time

    Pros

Since they are constantly understaffed, it is easy to get the job. Good 401k (4% full match). Most people start at $12-13 an hour. Lots of overtime if you need it.

    Cons

Shifts are often 12+ hours long. If you are on 2nd you can and will work 15 hour days, very unsafe. Training is basically just 30 minutes of someone watching you drive so it's a waste and unsafe, especially around new hires. Management is not the most talented people, just those who have been there the longest. You are forced to work on holidays (they spring it on you or ask for "volunteers" a few days before the holiday) and 1 or 2 Saturdays a month. Always understaffed.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to get rid of bad pickers (there were way too many) and keep those that do well. Way too many good workers were underpaid and overworked. Get overtime under control. Need to invest in way more training, lack of training is probably the biggest weakness.

I worked at Owens & Minor full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It l's work and it pays the bills. Plus plenty of overtime. Forklift experience.People were helpful and nice. Benefits are ok not great but ok.

    Cons

Mandatory overtime is crazy expect at least 2hrs a day and more if you have a holiday weekend. Turnover is insane and adds to the mandatory overtime. Seen one person a month for a single position. Pay for the work is really low. Break system is crazy needs to voice check in every 15mins so no straight 30mins.

    Advice to Management

If your gonna force your team to do overtime you better be doing overtime also. Many times Ive seen a SUP leave after 8hrs and their team has mandatory overtime of at least 2-4 hours.

I have been working at Owens & Minor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits if can afford

    Cons

Good benefits but most teammates cant afford them because pay is unreasonably low and unfair to workers

    Advice to Management

Please stop telling lies to teammates and not following up on them. Raise your pay to teammates so that they can afford to actually pay bills and make a decent living. The overall moral at most DC are lacking behind even Walmart employees.

    Pros

decent pay, guaranteed hours and you get bounses.

    Cons

Poor communications skills, favoritism and spitefulness. Very unprofessional, work long hours without help. Poor leadership skills. Supervisors talk bad about employees to other employees. Worse insurance I've ever had.

    Advice to Management

Step up and fix the issues that the employees deal with everyday. Make them feel comfortable to tell what's going on around them. Stop ignoring these problems.
