I have been working at Oxford University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You can choose your own hours and the rate at which you work. You are a bit of a combination of a student and a worker, allowing you the benefits of both. You have almost complete freedom over the work you do - to an extent. If you love your subject, you have almost unfettered ability to explore it.

    Cons

You can never know if you are working enough, and you are unguided. It's a blessing and a curse to set your own pace and choose your own work. You are also very much at the mercy of your supervisor, you need to pick this carefully. Being both a student and a worker gives you the negatives of both, too!

    Pros

    - good working conditions, you don't work longer than your contract states
    - relaxed atmosphere in the office, no pressured environment
    - lots of holidays

    Cons

    - not very driven, excellence isn't encouraged because average performance seems good enough already.
    - few other young people to socialise with; not much of a community culture

I have been working at Oxford University part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Employees are treated fairly with adequate contracts and are paid in time. They also receive free lunches and good training as required. The work environment is friendly and support is always provided by different departments as necessary and in a timely manner. The management line is established and works greatly, caring about the employee's welfare and safety.

    Cons

There is nothing special that I can count as a downside. As an educational institution with a history of more than 400 years, it seems everything is in place and working greatly. I would only point out to the signage system used inside the college, which can be confusing for formal and informal visitors.

    Advice to Management

While the internal relationships are clearly known and work efficiently, it is always good to have regular meetings with people in different departments to improve organizational links. A more detailed and helpful signage system would also improve the college's view in the eyes of outsiders.

    Pros

Friendly management with reasonable pay and reasonable hours. Good place to work to earn some extra money in the summer.

    Cons

Hours can be unpredictable since availability of work depends on guests booking out the college's services during the holidays.

I have been working at Oxford University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of interesting people to work with
Generally the facilities are very good
Students are motivated, makes teaching more fun

    Cons

Huge amounts of bureaucracy, makes getting anything done difficult
Don't expect to be involved in colleges if you're a post-doc, most are ignored.
Doesn't feel like there's any room for progression.
Pay is awful compared to Oxford cost of living.

    Advice to Management

Don't forgot about post-docs and remember that you're a university - not just a business.
