I have been working at PAAMCO part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Good benefits
    Nice people
    Relaxing environment

    Cons

    Too old-school
    Hesitant to change

I have been working at PAAMCO full-time

    Pros

    Great Benefits
    Work out at Lunch
    Food and Snacks
    Great Peers

    Cons

Gives promotions to people who don't have the experience or management background. They don't punish bad behavior which would never happen at any other company. Especially if they have been reported to HR dozens of times for harassment, poor communication and stress on an employee. Nothing will change so you just have to keep your head down.

    Advice to Management

Promote people who work hard and are team players - not those who everyone is afraid of and make their team unhappy year after year. My advice would be to fire bad behavior and hire people that will impact positively, lead and keep your team motivated.

    I worked at PAAMCO full-time

    Pros

Very unique culture, always finding a reason to gather employees together whether it is national cheeseburger day or arbitrarily designated wig day, and most people are good sports and participate. Reasonable hours for the investment industry and open door policy make most senior people are very accessible. Broad ability to work on different things based on interest and firm need.

    Cons

Some mandatory internal reports that are regularly produced are painful to create and add little value. Strong personalities in senior positions spend insufficient time responding to concerns of junior personnel. As a feature of overall firm culture, communication generally has a lot of room for improvement.

    I worked at PAAMCO full-time

    Pros

Strong culture, multitude of company events
Well-structured summer associate program, taken seriously by company
Smart, supportive and approachable colleagues and partners
    Down-to-earth, brilliant and friendly CEO
    Profitable, niche business
    Phenomenal HR and administrative staff
    Excellent work/life balance
    Clear and real advancement opportunities
    Great gym on premises

    Cons

Irvine location may not be the best for some, especially single people
Underperformance in recent years (along with most of hedge fund industry)

    Advice to Management

IT system must be improved; daily position level transparency is a competitive advantage but intraday level transparency would be even better. Company is working on that front

I have been working at PAAMCO full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Amazing work culture, everyone is very friendly and not long hours like usual hedge funds. Always bring in food for lunch, and many events for employees to go to. In addition to giving an equinox membership with the job!

    Cons

Sometimes I feel like the work isn't as transferable into different industries because PAAMCO does things in a very different way.

    Pros

great benefits, good work life balance, nice offices, great location

    Cons

lots of office politics, difficult to get promotions due to structure of programs

    Advice to Management

Minimize the office politics and undeserved promotions that result from it. Some senior management staffers are so under qualified for their positions it is scary.

    Pros

Portfolio management and account management programs offer ideal platform to enter an MBA program post-PAAMCO. Learning and development are part of the company's core. Firm is filled with incredibly talented individuals and has a very flat structure.

    Cons

Account management analysts have to work long hours during busy times (this is to be expected with client-deadline-driven projects).

    Pros

I have no pro for this company. I'm surprised it has survived this long with all the SEC investigations

    Cons

PAAMCO has been through lawsuits and criticism which they try to bury. There's high turnover. A lot of politics. At times, it felt like being in high school. I really don't think they do good work. Client facing employees are good at exaggeration. I think this company is overvalued. You have to pay PAAMCO and the underlying hedge funds. Double the fees. But does it really add value? I don't think so. technically companies can avoid the double fee by starting their own. It's like hiring a personal trainer when you can save the money and do your own research.
