I worked at PACCAR full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

PACCAR is a stable company...decent benefits and retirement plans. Lots of opportunities to move into several divisions and develop a pretty decent work history that can be as diverse or specialized as you want it to be.

    Cons

Salaries are below average for industry if you aren't a manager. But to earn the big bucks, you will have to jump through a lot of hoops and follow some Draconian rules. Big idea thinking or outside the box thinking is not really encouraged or if an idea is voiced, you need to be wary of opportunistic co-workers who will try and take credit for it. And once you reach a certain age, you will be stuck with no way out other than being down-sized or if you get lucky, can retire. It's not experience they want, it's getting people at half the age and half the salary. They make no effort to allow these people to be trained and mistakes that could have been avoided occur.

    Advice to Management

Treat your more experienced folks the treasure they are...allow for more forward thinking within PACCAR instead of just on products for customers. Spend the money for the infrastructure on outdated manufacturing systems and technology within the company. Ease up on the strict dress code and facial hair...we are living in the 21st century and PACCAR is way behind the times in the way the treat their employees.

    Pros

Ton of opportunities to grow your career as long as your manager does not block your promotion.

Meetings and projects that do not accomplish anything.

Hand written thank you card to the chairman for his gracious gift every year.

You get to work with a lot of people due to high turnover.

    Cons

Not trying to write a term paper here. Start reading some of these reviews and you will see a pattern.

    Advice to Management

    Why bother?

I have been working at PACCAR full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    401K contribution. Health insurance.

    Cons

Conservative, micro managers, discrimination, lack of training and development, tiny raises every 18 months, no career path, good ol' boys environment, men cannot have facial hair if they want to be a manager!

    Advice to Management

Welcome to 2017, please leave 1960 behind. Your workforce is old, retiring and no one but imported employees from India and Mexico seeks employment at your company. Maybe you might wonder why rather than the pompous attitude about how great this company was - when Chuck Piggott ran it. Years ago. The Corporate headquarters building says it all.

I worked at PACCAR (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great people; convenient headquarters. Nice to only work a strict 8-5 schedule.

    Cons

Horrible HR practices, bad managers, even worst employee engagement. Every day there I spent in fear of not only my own manager, but the chairman.

I worked at PACCAR full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Strong economic stability in the industry, opportunities for advancement within and out of divisions, decent commute depending on where you live. Very professional work environment with solid structure. Great place to kick off your career and develop skills further.

    Cons

Employees look like they are having the worst day of their life, every day. Constant turnover due to poor work life balance, causing issues getting unresolved and left behind for the next person. Most employees at the entry to mid level are replaceable in the eyes of senior management. This is reflected in the terrible compensation given the area the company is located in. Formal dress policy everyday. Even a slight color shade deemed "unprofessional" may get you sent home. Employees never feel truly comfortable in the environment fostered here. High workload is expected with minimal appreciation given.

    Advice to Management

Get with the times if you plan to attract new talent.

I have been working at PACCAR (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It's a stable place to work. There are some very knowledgable people who work here. I appreciate those who have trained and helped me. It's very hard to come by and it's unfortunate they are not appreciated or noticed by this company.

    Cons

Every position feels like two jobs. They know they need to hire more people but are too cheap to do it. Management plays favorites. You will not move up unless you play buddy-buddy with upper management. They promote people who don't deserve it and don't know how to do the job. That or they "force" people to take job offers, it's "career suicide" if they decline. This doesn't help with morale. Gossip is everywhere and people don't know how to mind their own business. High turnover, low pay and benefits, a lot of unhappy people who want out.

    Pros

Work life balance is excellent. If you like a gray work environment this is the place to be. Ultra conservative company. Programmed 'fun' events several times a year if you can get out of meetings to attend.

    Cons

Low pay for the industry, lean project resources ensure you can't focus in just one. Management top heavy. 'Agile' methodology is really not agile, just a way to give nonsensical kpis in a pretty graph to management. Management also knows they are always right.

    Advice to Management

    Wouldn't listen anyway.

    Pros

There is not much work to do, perfect job if you are near retirement.

    Cons

You do not get recognize for hard work. Management don't really care how much or little you work, as long as you look busy. So that it looks good when the big bosses pass by.
