    Pros

Good people but never felt like objectives were clearly spelled out. Office tried to build team support. Nice office atmosphere

    Cons

Company would do anything they could to change the comp plan to prevent earning commissions. Reporting got in the way of productivity.

    Advice to Management

Management should not mess with people's money. It kills the will to put in extra effort . Communication needs to improve. Compensation plan needs to improve.

I worked at PAETEC full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There were a lot of demands - some last minute and out of left field. If you are a person with a strong work ethic and like a challenge, this was a great place to work.

    Cons

Upper management talked about bottom up priorities, but when it came to delivering on that philosophy, it was quickly forgotten. Upper management was intimidated by the top and they in turn intimidated down the line. Toxic.

    Advice to Management

Embrace a culture of continuing education, review your reports more frequently than once a year and then actually coach them.

    Pros

Some great people are working there. They allow you to take four hours a month paid time off to do charity work. In some departments there is flexibility with regards to workday hours and working from home.

    Cons

Favoritism is rampant throughout the organization. Outside of the chosen few, survival is possible, but being successful is unlikely.

Senior management is driven by gossip and innuendo. They often make decisions without understanding (or even caring for) the consequences.

Employees are often micro managed and belittled.

Resources are frequently inadequate to get the job done properly. Sadly, worse still, when employees leave, there is a good chance the positions will not be back-filled.

The corporate culture invites finger pointing and lack of teamwork between departments and divisions. It is an us versus them mentality fomented by management.

Notable failures and substandard performance is often rewarded by lightened workload. Knowledgeable and successful employees often go overlooked and unappreciated.

Sales team continually receives praise from CEO while back office hears that they can be replaced.

    Advice to Management

Get over yourselves. PAETEC is NOT the most employee and customer oriented company. Get rid of the "founders" mentality it kills employee morale as does the continual threat of layoff/firing. You should really find out who the key people are and treat them with the respect and appreciation they deserve or risk losing them all and being left with the dead wood.

    good pay, benefits
    fairly easy going environment

    Cons

terminates employees in manner that makes you think they have commited a criminal act.
management believes in "black box" approach to employees. Employees are just pawns
to be tossed away if politically expedient.

    Advice to Management

follow the advice of your own book mr. ceo and ensure that management treats employees in a respectful manner come termination time.
