    Pros

PAETEC is a beautiful blend of passionate, competent culture with strong industry knowledge. Family is invited to all company events, and daily do's are often punctuated with fulfilling personal interaction. Service with a smile is an understatement!

    Cons

Coming from a much larger software development department with my previous employer, the opportunities for promotion seem a tad limited, but the salary and benefits are amazing at all levels.

    Advice to Management

Keep rocking the big picture scene! You guys have created an excellent, enjoyable culture based on a family-like level of care and personal service.

    Pros

A second tier telecom company with offices across the US. If in the NE, it is probably a pretty good place to work because the HQ is in NY.

    Cons

If in other areas, limited opportunities due to merger and few regional offices. Senior Mgmt in the SE was pretty weak.

    Advice to Management

I had the opportunity to meet several of the senior mgmt team. While I enjoyed my selection to Chairman's Club and numerous monthly and quarterly awards, the main reason I left was the lack of integrity at the regional level. Almost no oppty for advancement and zerohelp from Human Resources on a career path.

    Pros

The commitment to uphold the 4 Core Values (Caring Culture, Open Communication, Unmatched Service, Personalized Solutions) makes PAETEC a unique player in the marketplace, not only for customers but for employees as well. The environment is supportive and encouraging, where managers don't need to take credit for the work of their team, but let individuals stand out.

    Cons

The internal community is not as strong as it could be. With little opportunity for interaction (no main gathering place for lunchtime, departments spread across several buildings/locations), it can be difficult to build relationships between the different functional areas.

    Advice to Management

Keep pursuing Open Communication and sharing from the top down -- it's not common to find a company so open to talking on a regular basis. Maintain the focus on the employees. While some will always take issue with anything/everything, the feeling that you are noticed and valued makes a big difference.

    Pros

They generally leave you alone to do your work but the organization is so top heavy that you have to kowtow to everyone in order to get anything done.

    Cons

There is an abusive attitude toward sales reps and a feigned ignorance by the management of existing economic conditions. They are slow to pay for commissions and show favoritism to their pet employees to a dangerous fault. Unfortunately, they, management, have a very high opinion of themselves bereft of any reality other than juggled numbers. I am so happy that I am no longer employed there. Do yourself a favor and pass on this one, your health will thank you. Yes, that is right, the constrained pressure that the management foists on the sales reps is so disturbing that many get seriously ill because of it. It is an extremely toxic environment and the perpetrators of this incredibly harmful atmosphere get sadistic pleasure and energy from their manipulations.

    Advice to Management

Learn to stop sucking the life out of the employees. It is difficult, but any good company avoids the bullying, coercion, stonewalling, cover ups, and destructive policies that are so rampant and insidious within Paetec. If your peers don't agree, get out as soon as you can.

    Cons

terminates employees in manner that makes you think they have commited a criminal act.
management believes in "black box" approach to employees. Employees are just pawns
to be tossed away if politically expedient.

    Advice to Management

follow the advice of your own book mr. ceo and ensure that management treats employees in a respectful manner come termination time.

    Pros

Everyone was very friendly, including the senior management. You felt a true sincerity of you, and most managers tried to advance you as much as they could.

    Cons

Promotions were a bit curious as to who and why they were chosen. The overall business strategy is not highly sustainable, and we went through many rounds of layoffs, etc.

    Advice to Management

Really listen to your employees more, and realize that other ideas can be better than yours. Look for innovative ways to reward your employees. Listening and enacting is a great one.

    Pros

PAETEC has open communication and leadership which is refreshing. Its a growing company with a small company feel and you feel like you can make a difference. And there must be something to be said in the hiring process because there are some very top notch, quality people there.

    Cons

The entire company seems to have a go-go-go mentality, to get things done in the shortest time frame possible. That can wear people down over time.

    Advice to Management

Focus on quality, focus on keeping things fun, focus on keeping stress levels down. There are quality people at PAETEC who would do anything for the company and you don't want to lose them.

    Pros

Good benefits, nice people to work with

    Cons

The need for speed over customer service. Lack of Training. Quality assurance scoring is hit or miss. Pay is lousy compared to as much as we need to know. Micro manages every aspect of the job.

    Advice to Management

Start putting the customer first and treat all employees when it comes to quality the same way. We need training and not be just thrown in the deep end and expect to find your way out. Pay is not the best for the type of work we have to do.
