I worked at PAREXEL as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

North of Boston suburb office park location. Efficient equipment. Work provided matched entry level employees. Ability to improve inefficiencies. Friendly and intelligent people.

    Cons

Outside of year end SOX auditing, the work was administrative, tedious, non-intelligent, non-skill building and even during year end testing learning/understanding was not the emphasis; I still don't know anything about SOX testing. Responsibilities were not much better than copy/filing positions. Repetitive tasks with little feedback as to why you did what you did. Little intrinsic value among the people there, most are 40+ with their own lives, not much teamwork, rather assembly line oriented. Lots of small talk with little genuine care about who you are. Large corporation where you are just a replaceable employee, little care about you as a person and potential benefit to the company.
Company recently bought out by private non-american HQ'ed firm so for the next 5-7 years emphasis will be on ROI, not science, prescriptions, cures, employees, community...you know the aspects that made the company successful. Sad really.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like sponges and teach them, don't waste their proven talent. Learn how to actually manage employees instead of discarding at the first sign of trouble

I worked at PAREXEL full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Many managers are open to telecommuting
Supportive managers who are interested in helping you further your career
A good place to learn about the pharmaceutical industry

    Cons

The better you do your job, the more work they give you. High potential for burnout
Not great at providing training in real time. A lot of training upfront for work you will not do for months or longer
Not great at implementing change. Do not utilize 'change agents' to help support new roll-outs

    Advice to Management

Stop overloading the Clinical and Data Management leads. Implement a true mentoring program. Improve ability of Leads to get refresher training for tasks as they approach (such as an interim deliverable or a study lock)

I have been working at PAREXEL full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Good and smart people working in the company. Mostly a pleasure to deal with if they are not in management roles.
    - Flexible work hours and opportunity to work from home
    - Invest into training if you will ask for that at the right time

    Cons

    - Company doesn't let go of old processes and doesn't want to change them for better. Only separate departments can adapt, but then blocked by other departments that are not touched by the change.
    - No buy in from management for anything new, when things starting to down the hill everyone revert to old ways and don't finish change transition.
    - Do not invest into technology or innovation
    - Leadership doesn't provide proper support to personnel, just pressure people into working overtime to get things done faster.
    - They are not Agile even through they formally has adapted Agile and SAFe.
    - Mindset shift is impossible, every "new" process results in being even worse and less efficient.
    - Do not care about their people (vacation can be denied to deliver release, ppl expected to always work overtime, burn people out, play on a fact that some people can't leave because on visa)
    - Bios to hiring certain nationalities.
    - Always conflicting priorities and no clear vision for the future.
    - Terrible corporate culture.

    Advice to Management

Please, shift your leadership towards being servant leaders who can help and not just do orders. Please, be more accessible to people, and break terrible corporate culture.

I worked at PAREXEL full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Health Insurance, dental insurance, PTO, 401K

    Cons

High turnover, incompetent management, outdated systems, high stress due to constant layoffs and reorganizations, compensation about 15% below market.

    Advice to Management

Try to stay afloat, considering you lost all your institutional knowledge in the finance organization. Hire people who are competent and like working with other people, and don't think trickery is a virtue. And one finance is a joke. You can't expect an internal auditor to do tax returns and a financial analyst to do SOX compliance. Just grow up, would you.
