Current Employee - GOM Line Pilot

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at PHI - Louisiana full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Company will go out of its way to protect and help their pilots. Safety is not only talked about but the main focus. Declined flights due to weather, or unsafe areas of operations are backed readily. Pay is good, but like any place could improve. No matter your experience level there are plenty of experienced pilots to draw from when you question your flight for any reason.

    Cons

Being from the North West..the Heat and humidity will flat try to kill you. You can work and enjoy what you do, taking all that comes with it, or you can complain(alternate word starts with a B). Those that B about everything tend to draw negative results. I have noticed that you take what you give from this job. Stay positive, and roll with the changes and tough moments...in the end..your getting paid well to fly well...

    Advice to Management

Try to spend a day a month on the line, and in the flight line of the light ships...so you don't forget the circus we deal with off shore. The off shore circus is not the same as the well polished machine you observe from the ground on PHI bases.

    Pros

    Cons

Poor management communication, zero training and with company restructuring employees have been forgotten. Work staff is very lean and you will work overtime.

I worked at PHI - Louisiana full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good pay for the gulf. Generally safe operations, decent line maintenance with plenty of funds to replace broken parts. Always investing in new equipment to stay market competitive and attractive to larger customers.

    Cons

A once great company loyal to employees. In the oil downturn business has taken over and people and jobs are expendable. Benefits getting worse as they try and save money. Poor leadership that is absent and has no clue about line operations. A once great maintenance and training department that was shelved to save money. Strict culture to standardization and not open to ideas from the field. Very secretive about...

    Advice to Management

Extremely poor communication from leadership. Safety- the answer is not more rules or added checklists. Safety has become un-safe due to excessive distractions. I️ don't believe anyone in management has flown complex aircraft and can realize the effect.

I worked at PHI - Louisiana full-time for more than 8 years

      Pros

7&7 Schedule, slightly above market compensation, 401K.

      Cons

Cut-throat working environment. Culture of "Good Ole' Boy"network set in stone. Absolute minimum observed national holidays. Communication between corporate/management/workers severely lacking (company-wide) or nonexistent (at some field bases). Hypocrisy when enforcing company policies. Health benefits decreased annually, premiums increased annually, and qualifications to obtain/maintain benefits was a annual circus...

      Advice to Management

Starting with the CEO "Big AL", this is the most arrogant and obnoxious person I've had the displeasure of meeting. PHI has a company-wide, strong Alt-Right political culture that is toxic and apparently mandatory for new employee's searching for acceptance in the 'Network'. Broadcasting Fox news or Rush Limbaugh (television and radio) was mandatory 24/7, and all other news organizations were frowned upon- and grounds...
