    Pros

This is particular to PKF Texas

        • Breakfast on Wednesdays
        • Free sodas, fruit juices and other refreshments
        • Fresh fruit weekly
        • Anniversary Cash Gift Program
        • On-Site Fitness Gym
        • Range of coffee machines (Keurig, Flavia, etc)
            • Happy hours and other camaraderie events

Overall nice place to work. New office setting with updated lighting and office space. Best view of Galleria area.

    Cons

Millennials vs Baby Boomer Staff. Few Generation X.
Millennials are full of ideas but Baby Boomer (tenured) staff are reluctant to embrace change.

    Pros

This is an ideal work-life balance place. They are very flexible and willing to work with you. Central location in the city is nice and great office space and amenities. All clients are local, so not much for traveling.

    Cons

Accountants are generally introverts and shy to stir the waters. This can lead to issues and forming of cliques/comfort zones of friends. Great people, just poor management amoungst middle mangement.

    Advice to Management

Don't rely on the senior associates as much. Also, limit the inclusion of them in the review meetings. Having information about the other employees with whom they haven't worked makes for false impressions and favoritism. Seniors are only 23-25 years old. Still time to mature in their management skills

    Pros

PKF Texas is a firm that is open to different working arrangements. They listen to employee requests and concerns. They want you to succeed if you want to succeed, but nothing is given to you. You will be exposed to a lot of different accounting issues while working there.

    Cons

Growing, but at a slower pace than you might think possible. The location is better than downtown, but still not the easiest to get to.

    Pros

Work-life balance. The company never lay off employees even during economic downturn. PKF has open environment, which makes it easy for employees to speak up

    Cons

Benefit package need to be more attractive. Client base was mostly small, and unorganized companies, whose accounting system is very messy.

    Advice to Management

Coaching and mentor program should be developed. More transparent about company's compensation and benefit. Offer better compensation to attract talents.

    Pros

Lots of perks. Free parking, beverages, Wednesday breakfasts, lunches during busy seasons. Bonus for getting your CPA and all professional expenses covered. The best thing about the company is that it feels like a family. The firm does a lot of extra activities and events so it feels like a very social place.
Hard work and quality work is recognized. Seniors, managers, and directors will tell you when they are pleased so it is nice to know that you are not working anonymously.

    Cons

Work/life balance is tough here. But I guess it's the same all over in public accounting. If you're doing this, you pretty much have to accept that you will have no life 6 months out of the year, and then maybe more than that. If you want to move up here you will have to do more than just put in your time, you really need to go the extra mile. And you will only be expected to give more of yourself if you want to move into management.
My major issue with the workload is that sometimes management is so project driven that one or two people will end up working 70+ hours while the rest of the staff are walking out the door at 4pm.
I'm still trying to decide if this is really where I want my career to go or not.
I'm still trying to decide whether this

    Advice to Management

Promotions to management are rare because of turnover at the staff level. I think that the management of the firm needs to realize that it is indicative of a problem when they have to hire so many managers from outside the company.

    Pros

Large network of firms that give opportunity to work in many locations around the world. They provide frequent training to all staff. Try to be innovative and ahead of the crowd. Lots of opportunity for promotion and career development.

    Cons

Salary is not great compared to some competing firms and internal processes and organisation could be improved. Could be a more efficient place to work.

    Advice to Management

Look after the staff and make them feel worthwhile. Don't treat them as just another number that can be replaced. Keep investing in training and education.
