I have been working at PLCB part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Relatively good pay for low-level retail work.
Good retirement options and other benefits if you stay in for the long haul.
Relative variety in work, you're usually not stuck doing the exact same job within the store constantly.
Lots of locations, at least in the more populous parts of the state.
Nothing short of drastically reformed state law or you deserving it will make you lose your job.

    Cons

Work schedules can be terrible. I only get my schedule a week at a time, only getting the next week's on Friday. Hours can be very inconsistent.
As part time, you might have to travel a lot. Depending on how many hours you get at your normal store, you may have to travel to other stores for most (or even all, rarely) of your hours.
Your days and times of work can be horribly inconsistent, and inconvenient. For example: Having to work until 10:15pm one night, then needing to start at 7am the next day at a different store to unload a truck.
Upper management can be highly incompetent, sometimes causing lots of headaches at the store level that they don't care about.
If anything needs fixed/repaired that isn't an emergency, it can take ages for them to even send someone to look at it.
During certain times of the year, stores are forced to carry far more than they need which makes unloading trucks a hassle and clutters the stockroom. It quickly gets hard to find anything, and sometimes unsafe because there's nowhere good left to put the extra stock.
You will be understaffed far more often than overstaffed.
Can take months to get the job after completing the civil service test.
They expect a month's notice for taking time off when you only get a weekly schedule.

    Advice to Management

Please, listen to store managers more. Lots of small headaches from lack of communication add up quickly.

I have been working at PLCB part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Knowledge of wines and spirits

    Cons

No set schedule. Changes every week, hourly pay not equal to the hard labor. Yes there is hard labor on your body. Especially your feet! Managers can be anal and rude to customers

    Advice to Management

Increase pay. Shipment shouldn't be over 300 cases and men should do them

I have been working at PLCB full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Many opportunities for learning. The organization is working to hire more strategic, experienced operations staff and project managers to continue to improve the overall qulity of the business. Positive culture.

    Cons

Pay is not on par with comparable Mgt level positions in private sector retail and the amount of work you really do every day.

    Advice to Management

There has to be a way to increase job classification under civil service or, as an independent agency, pull lout of that system.
